Indonesia is evaluating a proposal from India for a new artillery system, according to a recent meeting between the two countries’ defense ministries. A delegation from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, led by Secretary General Marsdya TNI Purn Donny Ermawan Taufanto M.D.S., M.S.P, received a presentation about the MGS 155mm 8×8 truck-mounted artillery gun system. This presentation took place during a series of meetings forming the 7th Joint Defense Cooperation Committee (JDCC) between Indonesia and India.

The MGS system offered to Indonesia is manufactured by Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. (KSSL), an Indian private sector company affiliated with Bharat Forge Limited. Notably, the MGS is based on the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Reminding “non-response” to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India gave a ‘clear message’ against terrorism with the surgical strike and airstrikes after the terror attacks in Uri and Pulwama.

He said that the world was sympathetic with India after 26/11 but also wanted New Delhi not to create any ‘tensions’ with Islamabad. The EAM added that it was because India had not worked to “delegitimize terrorism” and convince the world that it is a danger for everyone globally.

Hours after India signed an agreement to operate the Chabahar Port in Iran for 10 years, the United States has warned that “anyone” considering business deals with Tehran needs to be aware of the “potential risk of sanctions.” The US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson, Vedant Patel, however, also said that it will let the Indian government speak on its foreign policy goals.

“We are aware of these reports that Iran and India have signed a deal concerning the Chabahar Port, I would let the government of India speak to its own foreign policy goals, vis-a-vis the Chabahar Port as well as its own bilateral relationship with Iran,” Vedant Patel said in the press briefing on Monday (local time).

An Indian personnel working with the United Nations was killed in Gaza when the vehicle he was travelling in came under attack in Rafah, making it the first international casualty for the organisation since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The individual was a staff member of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (DSS). While the identity of the victim has not yet been revealed, sources confirmed to PTI he was from India and a former Indian Army personnel.

Amid the intensified protest against the Pakistan government in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday reiterated India’s stand on merging the illegally occupied region and said that “one day we will end the illegal occupation of the POK and the POK will join with India.”

“These days, a lot of things are going on at the POK. You must have seen some incidents happening there. Now we (the Modi government) are very clear on this…POK is a part of India…it was always part of India, it will be part of India,” EAM said during a media interaction at a seminar on Indian Capital Markets ‘Roadmap for Viksit Bharat’ at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in Mumbai.

The FBI has seized the cellphones of the mostly Indian crew on board a crippled cargo ship in Baltimore as part of the investigation into the deadly bridge accident in the US city, a non-profit organisation in touch with the personnel said.

The 2.6-km-long, four-lane Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Patapsco River came crashing down on March 26 after the 984-foot ship ‘Dali’ collided against it. The crew on board Dali included 20 Indians and one Sri Lankan. The crew has been on the ship since the accident and has been cooperating with the investigation.

Three Maoists, including two females, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Monday, police said.

An intelligence input was received that some members of the Perimili Dalam of Maoists were camping in a forest near Katrangatta village in Bhamragad taluka with an aim to carry out subversive activities during their ongoing Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) period, Superintendent of Police Neelotpal said.
