The successful rollout of a light tank by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) could be a major turning point for India’s indigenous main battle tank (MBT) program. This development, based on a chassis designed by DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), strengthens the case for a domestically produced Next-Generation Main Battle Tank (NGMBT) to meet the Indian Army’s requirements.
The Ministry of Defence’s inclusion of light tanks in its latest indigenization list effectively eliminates the option of foreign procurement. L&T’s success in utilizing DRDO technology for this 25-30 ton light tank showcases the potential of the private sector in developing the NGMBT.

BrahMos, the Indo-Russian joint venture producing the supersonic cruise missile of the same name, has achieved a significant milestone – an 83% indigenization level. This announcement by BrahMos CEO & MD, Mr. A. D. Rane, highlights India’s growing self-reliance in defense technology.
Mr. Rane credited a “systematic approach and a renewed push for self-reliance” for this achievement. BrahMos, in collaboration with Indian industries, has successfully produced critical sub-systems like boosters and seekers, along with numerous smaller components.

Modern fighter jets rely heavily on advanced radar systems to achieve superiority in air-to-air, air-to-ground, and air-to-sea operations. The KLJ-7A and ELM-2052 are two prominent Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars, respectively used in the JF-17 Block III and Tejas Mk1A fighter jets.

India on Wednesday said its main issue with Canada continues to be the political space that Ottawa provides to anti-India elements which advocate extremism and violence. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said India has repeatedly conveyed its “deep concerns” to Canada and New Delhi expects Ottawa to take strong action against those elements.
His comments came a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Italy to attend the G7 summit. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is among the leaders of the G7 advanced economies attending the annual summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday that it has already raised the issue of vandalisation of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi by Khalistani separatists in Italy, just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country for the G7 Summit.
“We have seen the reports and taken it up with the Italian authorities. We understand that a suitable rectification has already been made. The effort to vandalise the statue, which is, of course, deplorable, has been addressed and the necessary rectification done,” said Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.

Three recently discovered craters on the surface of Mars have been named for renowned cosmic ray physicist late Devendra Lal and the towns of Mursan and Hilsa in northern India. While the discovery was made by a team of scientists which included researchers working at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) here in 2021, the naming was approved by an international body earlier this month.
The three craters are situated in the Tharsis volcanic region of the Red Planet, said the Ahmedabad-based PRL, a unit of the Department of Space of the Government of India, in a release on Wednesday.

A Russian nuclear-powered submarine and other naval vessels arrived in Cuba Wednesday for a five-day visit to the communist island off Florida’s coast in a show of force amid spiraling US-Russian tensions.
The submarine Kazan, which Cuba says is not carrying nuclear weapons, was accompanied by the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, as well as an oil tanker and a salvage tug. The Kazan and Admiral Gorshkov, which is one of Russia’s most modern warships, could be seen just off Havana, which is about 90 miles (145 km) from the tip of Florida.

US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would likely “have the opportunity to encounter one another” on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy, National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan said here Wednesday.
He (Biden) expects to see Prime Minister Modi here. It’s up to the Indians to formally confirm his attendance, but our expectation is that the two of them will have the opportunity to encounter one another. The nature of that encounter is still fluid because so much of the schedule is fluid, Sullivan told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to Italy to attend the G7 Summit, along with the US president.
