The Indian Air Force (IAF) is hopeful for a breakthrough in the long-delayed Medium Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MMRCA) program, also known as MRFA. The proposal, seeking 114 fighter jets, has been in motion since 2018. IAF officials are pushing for a fast-track approach with the issuance of Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) and financial backing later this year.
However, an IAF source, speaking anonymously to idrw.org, expressed concern about the government’s delays. The source emphasized the criticality of acquiring new aircraft to address the IAF’s fighter jet shortfall.

These cutting-edge munitions, currently under rigorous testing and development, promise to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of India’s armed forces.
Loitering munitions often referred to as “kamikaze drones” or “suicide drones,” are a hybrid between a missile and a UAV. They are designed to loiter in the airspace around a target area for an extended period, identify high-value targets, and then attack with precision. The canister air-launched versions of these munitions are notable for their innovative deployment method and operational flexibility.

The war in Ukraine has highlighted a critical gap in India’s air defense capabilities: the lack of robust decoy systems. Decoy technology is essential for misleading and confusing enemy air defenses, giving Indian forces a significant advantage in potential conflicts.
Decoys come in various forms, mimicking real aircraft and missiles. When deployed strategically, they can deceive enemy radars, causing them to waste ammunition and defensive efforts on these false targets. This creates a window for real Indian airstrikes to proceed undetected and deliver maximum impact.

The indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, in its LA-2018 LSP (Limited Serial Production) variant, was recently spotted taking off from INS Hansa base in Goa. The aircraft’s Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) transponder was active, indicating a planned calibration sortie.
This mission, most likely, was a crucial step in evaluating and testing the LA-2018’s onboard sensors. Calibration sorties are essential for ensuring the accuracy and functionality of various sensors, including radar, Electronic Warfare (EW) suite, and other mission-critical systems.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is setting its sights on the next chapter in its Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) technology development program with the upcoming LEX-3 mission. Scheduled for next month, LEX-3 will mark a significant step forward by incorporating more sensors and potentially even a payload onto the scaled RLV model.
This mission builds upon the successes of the previous RLV-LEX flights. RLV-LEX-01, accomplished last year, laid the groundwork for further development. RLV-LEX-02 then focused on refining the autonomous landing capability, particularly under challenging conditions. The test vehicle, named Pushpak, was released from an Indian Air Force Chinook helicopter at an altitude of 4.5 km. Simulating a launch scenario, Pushpak was released 4 km away from the designated runway. Despite these dispersions, the vehicle autonomously performed cross-range corrections and landed precisely on the runway using its onboard systems.

In a startling revelation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh has alleged an ongoing plot to carve out a Christian state, akin to East Timor, from parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar.

In a significant development, contract negotiations between the governments of India and France in the over Rs 50,000 crore deal for 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets is scheduled to begin on May 30 with the arrival of a high-level French team here.
The French side would meet with Indian Defence Ministry counterparts to begin official negotiations in the fighter jet deal for the Indian Navy under which aircraft would be operated from both aircraft carriers operated by the force, defence industry officials told ANI.

India’s Agnikul Cosmos called off a test flight of its first rocket on Tuesday seconds before it was due to launch — the fourth such cancelation in the last three months. Launches of India’s second privately built rocket, and first using a combination of gas and liquid fuel, had been aborted three times before because of technical issues, including one flight that was canceled about 90 seconds before lift-off.
The launch, scheduled for 5:45 a.m. IST (0015 GMT) on Tuesday, was first delayed less than six minutes before lift-off “due to a technical glitch in the countdown activities,” and officials set a new lift-off time of 9:25 a.m.

This huge project entails the conceptualisation, implementation, and provision of eight systems specific to the Arudhra MPR within four years.
The Arudhra MPR, a multi-purpose, 4D indigenous radar developed by DRDO, has capabilities to automatically detect and track different aerial objects. Mistral’s responsibilities include the radar signal processing system that enhances India’s defence system under the Government of India’s Make in India campaign.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on Tuesday announced a strategic partnership with IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to develop India’s first Quantum Diamond microchip imager — an advanced sensing tool to test the quality of semiconductor chips.
The new sensing tool, to be built at IIT Bombay PQuest Lab by experts from TCS in the next two years, will help reduce chances of chip failures and improve efficiency of electronic devices. It will enable better quality control of semiconductor chips, thereby improving product reliability, safety, and energy efficiency of electrical devices.

The J&K Police on Tuesday attached the properties of two Pakistan-based Kashmiri terror handlers in Baramulla district. Police said that after obtaining an attachment order from Sub Judge Uri, three Kanals and 19 Marlas of land worth lakhs of rupees belonging to two militant handlers based in Pakistan were attached in the district.
The terror handlers have been identified as Jalal Din, son of Raj Mohd, and Mohd Saki, son of Mastana Bhatti.

Security forces in Anantnag district have arrested two hybrid militants for a terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this month in which a tourist couple was injured, officials said on Tuesday.
Those arrested have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Shah and Adnan Ahmad Beigh, both residents of Anantnag, they said. A pistol along with a magazine and eight rounds, a grenade, and 120 AK rounds were recovered from their possession, the officials said.
