The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is seeking collaboration with private Indian companies for the manufacturing and fabrication of a hybrid Brake Parachute system for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.

The Brake Parachute plays a vital role in ensuring the safe landing of the LCA. It supplements the aircraft’s primary wheel braking system by reducing its landing run, particularly beneficial on runways with limited space.

The LCA’s Brake Parachute is a hybrid system, combining various components:

  • Textile Materials: High-strength nylon cordage, webbings, and fabrics are used for durability and functionality.
  • Metal Parts: Essential for structural integrity and system operation.

DRDO’s initiative presents a compelling opportunity for Indian private companies to participate in indigenous aerospace manufacturing. Companies with expertise in Textile engineering, High-strength fabric manufacturing, Metal fabrication, Aerospace equipment assembly are encouraged to express their interest in collaborating with DRDO on this project. This collaboration can foster technological expertise within the Indian private sector and contribute to the self-sufficiency of the Indian Air Force.
