Two former Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter pilots have taken their passion for aviation to new heights with the creation of Axial Aero, a Telangana-based startup. Their revolutionary product – the AXIAL AERO 6 DOF-360° FLIGHT SIMULATOR – is poised to transform pilot training for the military and beyond.

The Axial Aero simulator surpasses existing technology with its advanced mechanical design and motion-cueing algorithms. Unlike traditional Stewart platforms, it offers a full 360° range of motion on all three axes (X, Y, and Z), replicating the G-forces experienced by pilots during real flight. Additionally, the simulator utilizes advanced actuators built into the seat to achieve realistic translational movement, creating an unparalleled immersive experience.

This innovation isn’t just about fighter jets. The Axial Aero simulator is designed for comprehensive training across various aerial platforms. From high-performance fixed-wing aircraft and attack helicopters to advanced drones and emerging eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicles, the simulator caters to the diverse needs of modern aviation.

The ability to simulate continuous 360° motion makes this simulator ideal for Spatial Disorientation Simulator (SDS) and Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) applications. Pilots can experience and learn to overcome the potentially dangerous effects of spatial disorientation in a safe, controlled environment.

The Axial Aero simulator comes in single and double-seater configurations, weighing approximately 1.8 tons and 2.5 tons respectively. Packed with technical prowess, it boasts a minimum roll rate of 120°/sec, pitch rate of 60°/sec, and yaw rate of 60°/sec, accurately replicating real-world flight dynamics.

To house this marvel of aviation technology, a dedicated room with minimum dimensions of 5m (length) x 5m (width) x 4m (height) is required. Additionally, a dust-free, air-conditioned environment maintained at an ideal temperature range of 18-21°C ensures optimal performance. Power requirements are approximately 12 kVA with a recommended generator backup for uninterrupted operation. Finally, a solid concrete floor with provisions to securely bolt down the simulator is essential for safe and stable operation.

Flight Lieutenant B P Kumar (Retd.), the visionary behind Axial Aero, has channeled his experience as a fighter pilot into creating this groundbreaking simulator. He credits the India Startup Festival (ISF) for providing crucial support in networking and mentorship. Axial Aero is a shining example of Indian innovation, with the potential to enhance pilot safety, reduce training costs, and empower domestic manufacturing in the aviation sector.

With its cutting-edge technology and versatility, the Axial Aero 6 DOF-360° FLIGHT SIMULATOR is poised to revolutionize pilot training. This invention, born from the passion of former IAF pilots, represents a significant leap forward in Indian aerospace innovation.
