The Ministry of Defence in India is embarking on a mission to enhance the mobility and logistical capabilities of the Indian armed forces. The ministry is planning to procure approximately 5,000 Lorry 5/7.5 Ton General Service 4×4 vehicles, along with 2,500 Truck 2.5 Ton General Service 4×4 vehicles. These vehicles are designed to serve as versatile and rugged load carriers, facilitating the transportation of critical equipment and supplies to various operational areas.

The primary objective behind the procurement of these vehicles is to bolster the Indian armed forces’ transportation and logistics infrastructure. The 5/7.5 Ton General Service 4×4 vehicles are engineered to exhibit impressive payload capacities, capable of carrying 5 tons in challenging terrains such as hills, high altitudes, cross-country, and deserts while delivering a capacity of 7.5 tons in plains. These vehicles are envisioned to be the workhorses of the armed forces, ensuring that essential supplies and equipment can be efficiently transported to even the most remote and demanding locations.

Furthermore, the vehicles are equipped with 4×4 drive systems, offering exceptional manoeuvrability in diverse terrains and climatic conditions encountered in India. From the rocky terrains of the Himalayas to the arid deserts of Rajasthan, these vehicles are designed to excel, providing reliable performance in the country’s varied environments.

The vehicles are tailored to meet the unique requirements of the Indian armed forces. They possess the necessary attributes to navigate Class 18 bridges and are transportable by the broad-gauge section of the railway network with ODC (Dimensional Cargo) clearance. Additionally, they are configured for air transport, complete with lashing points and hooks on all sides for air-drop capabilities, ensuring that they can be swiftly deployed to strategic locations when needed.

India’s commitment to modernizing its defence capabilities is evident in the specification of these vehicles. They come equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including GNSS-based navigation systems that are compatible with the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS). The infotainment systems in the driver’s cabin feature advanced displays, providing the driver with essential information for navigating the vehicle efficiently.

Safety is a paramount concern for the armed forces, and the vehicles have been designed with modern safety features. They are equipped with contemporary brake systems, including an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Electric Brake Force Distribution (EBD). This ensures reliable braking performance, even in challenging terrains.
