In a recent interview with ANI, former Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria shed light on a significant development that took place in the aftermath of the Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. During his tenure as the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), the Indian Air Force (IAF) made a strategic move in anticipation of potential escalations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

According to Bhadauria, the IAF took a proactive approach to bolster its capabilities in the event of a full-fledged war with China. In response to the escalating tensions, the IAF deployed BrahMos-A equipped Su-30MKI fighter aircraft near the LAC. This strategic move was part of the IAF’s preparedness to carry out ground strikes if the need arose.

The deployment of BrahMos-A equipped Su-30MKI aircraft was particularly significant because it was cleared for operational roles just a few weeks before this development. This rapid deployment showcased the IAF’s agility and readiness to respond to evolving security situations.

The BrahMos-A missile is a formidable weapon in the IAF’s arsenal. Weighing 2.5 tons and capable of reaching Mach 3 speeds, this supersonic air-launched cruise missile has an impressive range of 450 kilometres. It is designed to engage highly defended military facilities located deep within enemy territory, making it a valuable asset in any potential conflict scenario.

The decision to deploy BrahMos-A equipped Su-30MKI aircraft near the LAC was a strategic move aimed at deterring aggression and protecting India’s interests. It demonstrated India’s resolve to defend its territory and respond effectively to any hostile actions.

Former CAS Bhadauria’s revelation provides insights into the IAF’s preparedness and its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security. It underscores the importance of maintaining a strong and capable defence force to address regional challenges and maintain peace along the border. India’s military readiness is crucial in ensuring stability and security in the region.
