Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir Thursday said Islamabad would never compromise on the water issue as it’s linked to the basic rights of 240 million people of the country. Gen Munir made the remarks while talking to vice-chancellors of different universities, principals, and senior teachers and educators, according to the army.

“Pakistan will never accept Indian hegemony,” he said. “Water is Pakistan’s red line, and we will not allow any compromise on this basic right of 240 million Pakistanis,” he said, referring to India’s move to keep the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. Munir also claimed that terrorists in Balochistan were backed by India and the militants involved in the unrest in the province have a connection with the Balochs. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives.

Brigadier Amitabh Jha and Havildar Sanjay Singh, who died while serving in peacekeeping missions, were honoured with the Dag Hammarskjold medals.

India’s Permanent Representative P Harish received the medals on Thursday (US time) from Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at a ceremony honouring the peacekeepers who died in the service of the UN. Mr Jha was the acting force commander of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) that is deployed in the Golan Heights to monitor the ceasefire between Israel and Syria after the 1973 war.

A total of 17 female cadets marched proudly alongside their male counterparts, marking a new chapter in the NDA’s legacy of shaping the nation’s military leadership. The event was graced by Mizoram Governor and former Army Chief, General Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who was accorded a Guard of Honour and served as the Reviewing Officer for the occasion.

Seventeen Maoists active in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and Sukma districts surrendered before police in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday.

The members of the banned CPI-Maoist surrendered in the presence of Superintendent of Police Rohit Raju and CRPF officials at the district police headquarters. According to police, the Maoists, including two Area Committee members, four party members and 11 militia cadres, decided to leave the path of violence and lead a peaceful life with their family members.

India foiled Pakistan’s planned offensive on the intervening night of May 9 and May 10 by firing BrahMos missiles, the country’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has admitted in a public speech.

Speaking at an event in Azerbaijan, Sharif said that the Pakistani armed forces had planned to attack India before morning prayers, but before it could do so, several provinces of Pakistan were attacked by BrahMos missiles.

The Chinese military on Thursday declined comment on the performance of China-made weapons used by Pakistan in the recent conflict with India. Chinese Defence Ministry Spokesperson Sr. Col. Zhang Xiaogang also played down the reports of India recovering an unexploded PL-15E, a radar-guided beyond visual range missile, said to be the most advanced rocket of its kind produced by China.

“The missile you mentioned is an export equipment and has been shown at defence exhibitions at home and abroad many times”, Zhang said in the Chinese defence ministry’s first media briefing after the May 7-10 military conflict between India and Pakistan.

India on Thursday, May 29, said that it remains in touch with the authorities in Tehran for locating three Indian nationals who have gone missing in Iran.

“The three Indian nationals who had landed there some time ago are missing. We are in touch with the Iranian authorities to locate them, ensure their safety and security, and facilitate their eventual return home. We are in daily contact with the authorities there and are receiving good cooperation from the Iranian side. We are also in touch with the families of the missing people and extending all possible help,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a weekly media briefing in New Delhi.

The Central government on Thursday categorically denied a viral social media post claiming that a MiG-29 UPG fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was shot down and its pilot killed on May 7.

The PIB Fact Check unit has termed the claim fake and far from the truth, clarifying that the pilot in question is safe, on duty, and actively deployed. “A post circulating on social media claims that an Indian Air Force jet MiG-29 UPG has been shot down, and the IAF pilot has died. This claim is fake. The @IAF_MCC pilot is safe, on duty, and currently deployed,” the official PIB Fact Check handle said in a post on X.

Shabab-bin Ahmed, who was posted as Minister in the Embassy of Dhaka at The Hague, was cleared by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Administrative Division (Establishment) via an order dated November 21, 2024 to join as Deputy High Commissioner at the Kolkata mission.

The Delhi Police has arrested a man from Rajasthan for allegedly aiding Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) by supplying Indian mobile SIM cards for espionage activities, officials said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Kasim (34), had travelled to Pakistan twice — first in August 2024 and again in March 2025 — and stayed there for about 90 days, they said.

During his visits, he is suspected to have met officials of the Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a senior police officer said.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra Police has arrested a resident of neighbouring Thane for allegedly spying for Pakistan, a senior official said on Thursday. The accused, whose name was not disclosed, worked for an important organisation in Mumbai, and was “honey-trapped” by a Pakistani agent who posed as a woman and befriended him on Facebook, said the official.

He was found to have shared sensitive information about a vital installation with the ‘Pakistan Intelligence Operative’ through WhatsApp from November 2024 to March 2025, the official said.

IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Thursday hailed Operation Sindoor as a “national victory”, and said all the Indian forces came together to execute it in a very professional manner.

In his address at the CII Business Summit here, he also said, “We were taking the path of truth, I think, God was with us also in this.” “This Operation Sindoor that we’ve been talking about, it’s a national victory. I thank each and every Indian. I am sure, every Indian wanted….was looking towards this victory,” the IAF chief said.

People of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are part of the Indian family and the day is not far when they will return to India’s mainstream voluntarily, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday. Laying out India’s policy approach towards Pakistan, Mr Singh said New Delhi has “redesigned and redefined” its strategy and response to terrorism and that possible dialogue with Islamabad will be only on terrorism and PoK.

In an address at the CII Business Summit, the defence minister largely attempted to reach out to people of PoK, saying India considers them to be part of its “own” family.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said Operation Sindoor was far from over, asserting that Pakistan had already been hit “three times” inside its home.

He warned that India would act decisively against all those who sponsor terror. Addressing a rally in West Bengal’s Alipurduar, the first one since Operation Sindoor, the PM said the country’s armed forces had avenged the “audacity of terrorists” who insulted the dignity of Indian women. The PM was referring to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists were killed.
