The Punjab police on Sunday claimed to have dismantled a terror and extortion module linked to an operative of proscribed outfit Babbar Khalsa International with the arrest of two people.
Director general of police Gaurav Yadav said BKI member Jeevan Fauji was orchestrating an extortion racket targeting individuals in Punjab’s border districts. Two of his associates — Karajpreet Singh, a resident of Verowal, and Gurlal Singh alias Harman, a resident of Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran, have been apprehended, he said.

Two more persons, accused of being “anti-nationals”, have been apprehended in Assam, taking the total number of such arrests to 81, since the Phalgam terror attack in April, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
In a post on X, Sarma said one person each was apprehended from Sonitpur and Kamrup districts. “81 anti-nationals are now behind bars for sympathising with Pak…Our systems are constantly tracking anti-national posts on social media and taking action,” he added.

The Indian Army is currently undertaking extensive Capacity Development Demonstrations at key locations across the country, including the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges, Babina Field Firing Ranges, and Joshimath, with dedicated Air Defence equipment demonstrations also scheduled at Agra and Gopalpur. These field trials are being conducted under near-combat conditions, integrating electronic warfare simulations to assess the performance of cutting-edge defence systems rigorously. On 27 May 2025, General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, visited Babina Field Firing Ranges and reviewed the ongoing demonstrations and interacted with all stakeholders.
The demonstrations feature a wide array of advanced technologies developed under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aimed at accelerating indigenous capability development.

Indian astronaut and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to conduct exclusive food and nutrition-related experiments onboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the upcoming Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said on Saturday.
The experiments — developed under a collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), with support from NASA — aim to pioneer space nutrition and self-sustaining life support systems vital for future long-duration space travel.

With the strong emerging fiscal position in 2025-26, the government is likely to have some additional headroom to meet unforeseen expenditure on account of defence, according to a Bank of Baroda report released on Saturday.
The observation assumes importance in the backdrop of the tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. In its outlook for FY26, the report points out that the government has budgeted a fiscal deficit of 4.4 per cent of GDP, assuming 10.1 per cent growth in nominal GDP.

The CPI(M) Polit Bureau, on Saturday, condemned the “push-back” and deportation of suspected Bangladeshi citizens through the Indo-Bangladesh international borders.
The CPI(M) has demanded that the government should deal with those who have entered the country illegally according to the laid-out procedures. “In the aftermath of the terrorist attack at Pahalgam, the BJP-led state governments and the Central government are targeting particularly Bengali-speaking Muslims and have, without any verification, pushed them to Bangladesh. According to reports, some genuine Indian citizens, too, are arrested and pushed into Bangladesh. Even though citizens who were declared foreign nationals by the Foreigners Tribunals, but whose appeals are still pending before the Assam High Court and the Supreme Court, have been forcibly pushed back. This should not be allowed,” the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said in a statement.

Delhi Police has arrested another accused in connection with an ongoing investigation into an espionage racket linked to Pakistani intelligence operatives (PIOs), an official said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Hasin (42), is the elder brother of Kasim, who was earlier arrested for allegedly supplying Indian SIM cards to PIOs for spying activities, he said. “Hasin was arrested from the Nagar area in the Deeg district of Rajasthan as part of the probe. During interrogation, it was revealed that Hasin had visited Pakistan around 15 years ago to meet relatives and has allegedly been in contact with ISI officials for the last 4 to 5 years,” the officer said.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan on Saturday acknowledged losses of aircraft in recent hostilities with Pakistan but dismissed as “absolutely incorrect” Islamabad’s claim of downing six Indian jets.
Chauhan, in an interview to Bloomberg TV, asserted it is more important to find out why the aircraft were lost so that the Indian military could improve tactics and hit back again. “I think what is important is not the jet being downed but why they were being downed,” he said.

Moscow is genuinely interested in the revival of activities within the framework of the Russia-India-China (RIC) format, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday (May 29, 2025). “I would like to confirm our genuine interest in the earliest resumption of the work within the format of the troika — Russia, India, China — which was established many years ago on the initiative of [ex-Russian Prime Minister] Yevgeny Primakov, and which has organised meetings more than 20 times at the ministerial level since then, not only at the level of foreign policy chiefs, but also the heads of other economic, trade and financial agencies of the three countries,” Mr. Lavrov was quoted as saying by TASS.
The Foreign Minister was addressing an international social and political conference on forming a single and equitable system of security and cooperation in Eurasia in the city of Perm in the Ural mountains, where Europe borders with Asia, at the plenary session of the conference.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said ‘sindoor’ has become a symbol of valour following India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, and warned Pakistan that bullets will be answered with cannon balls.
He also described Operation Sindoor as the biggest and most successful anti-terror operation in the country’s history. “Sindoor has now become a symbol of valour in the country…If you fire bullets, then rest assured that they will be answered with cannon balls,” PM Modi said at the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan here on the occasion of the legendary queen’s 300th birth anniversary.
