The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) has issued a tender for maintenance, testing, and field service support of GE-F404 and GE-F414 engines. These engines are critical for powering various LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) variants, including the Tejas PV, LSP, and NP series. The GE-F414-INS6 engines will also be used in upcoming LCA-AF Mk2 and AMCA fighters.

Currently, ADA manages the maintenance of 10 GE-F404-F2J3 engines, 17 GE-F404-IN20 engines, and 9 GE-F414-INS6 engines. To further enhance its capabilities, ADA has established a comprehensive MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility for GE engines at GTRE, Bangalore. This facility includes a module replacement shop and a roof-mounted engine test bed located at Test Cell #5.

The scope of work outlined in the tender covers various aspects of engine maintenance and support:

  • Setting Up Intermediate-Level Maintenance Facility: The selected vendor will assist ADA in establishing an intermediate-level maintenance facility at the Engine Division of HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited).
  • Movement and Familiarization: The successful bidder will be responsible for transporting necessary tools, Ground Handling Equipment (GHE), and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to the Engine Division. Additionally, they will provide training and familiarization with engine technical publications for personnel involved in maintenance activities.
  • Engine Module and Accessory Maintenance: The scope includes the removal and replacement of engine modules and accessories as per the guidelines outlined in OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) technical publications and instructions provided by ADA scientists.
  • Troubleshooting and FADEC Support: The vendor will also offer assistance in troubleshooting engine hardware issues and facilitate updates to the FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) software.
  • Record Keeping and Quality Compliance: Maintaining detailed maintenance records for engines and accessories is crucial. The chosen vendor will be responsible for this task, ensuring compliance with all quality audit requirements.

This will ensure the operational readiness and continued effectiveness of the IAF’s (Indian Air Force) LCA fleet and future aircraft like the LCA-AF Mk2 and AMCA.
