Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, while two jawans were injured in an IED blast in the neighbouring Sukma district, a police official said on Saturday.

The gunfight took place around 8.30 am on Saturday in a forest under the Gangaloor police station area when a team of personnel from different security forces was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P told news agency PTI.

Security forces on Saturday busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad module by arresting four terrorist associates in Srinagar, police said. Police along with security forces in Srinagar today busted a major terror module linked with proscribed terror outfit JeM by arresting four terrorist associates, a police spokesperson said.

Acting on specific information, a joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established in Kenihama area in Nowgam in the outskirts of the city this evening, the spokesperson said.

An IIT-Guwahati student who had allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and was travelling to join the terror group was detained at Hajo on Saturday evening, police said. The student was nabbed four days after the ISIS India head Haris Farooqi alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi and his associate Anurag Singh alias Rehan were arrested in Dhubri district after they had crossed over from Bangladesh.

“Reference IIT Guwahati student pleading allegiance to ISIS – the said student has been detained while travelling and further lawful follow up would take place,” Director-General of Police GP Singh posted on X.

The Indian Army’s Western Command, spearheaded by its valiant Vajra Air Defence Warriors, recently conducted a successful live-fire exercise involving the Akash missile system. This exercise served to demonstrate and validate the system’s effectiveness against modern aerial threats.

The live firing focused on simulating real-world scenarios, specifically honing the ability to engage Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and standoff weapons with pinpoint accuracy. This exercise underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve in air defense capabilities, as UAVs and standoff weapons have become increasingly prevalent on the modern battlefield.

Underlining that Pakistan is sponsoring terrorism at almost an “industry level”, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday asserted that the mood in India now is not to overlook terrorists and it “will not skirt this problem anymore”.

Jaishankar, who is on a three-day visit to Singapore, made these remarks during a Q&A round held post his lecture session on his authored book ‘Why Bharat Matters’ at Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) of National University of Singapore (NUS).

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardarion Saturday raked up the Kashmir issue during his address on the country’s Resolution Day and termed it as one of the reasons for instability in the region. Speaking at the Pakistan Resolution Day Grand Parade here, Zardari said: “In our region, one of the main reasons for instability is the Indian illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. We condemn the brutalities, human rights violations carried out by the Indian government against innocent unarmed Kashmiri people.”

“I want to tell the Kashmiris that Pakistan will always stand by them in their just struggle against tyranny,” he added. “The key to durable peace in South Asia is the resolution of the dispute in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions. Pakistan, on its part, stands committed to extending all kinds of moral and diplomatic support until the oppressed people get their right to self-determination,” he said.

Vowing further naval interventions to secure distressed shipping assets on the high seas, Navy Chief, Admiral R Hari Kumar on Saturday flagged concerns over the resurfacing of piracy as an ‘industry’ to gain from ‘disorder in the region’.

Addressing media persons on the completion of hundred days of naval operations against operations for anti-drone, anti-missile, and anti-piracy attacks in the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, and Red Sea, Admiral Hari Kumar said the Navy will continue taking affirmative action to prevent such incidents, adding that ‘Operation Sankalp’, the naval operation to secure the crew of Bulgaria-flagged merchant vessel MV Ruen, has broken the myth of short and swift operations and stressed the need for sustained interventions to ensure the safety and stability of shipping assets in the oceans.

Over 100 people were rescued, including 27 from Pakistan and 30 Iranians, in different anti-piracy operations, the Indian Navy said in a press conference on Saturday.

The Indian Navy said that besides the anti-piracy operations in the Arabian Sea, including ‘Operation Sankalp’ and other missions, it also responded to 13 attack incidents to save lives of 110 lives which included 45 Indians and 65 international citizens.

The Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy, George Enzweiler, called upon officials at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday.

According to ministry sources, the MEA lodged a strong protest with the German envoy over the ‘blatant interference’ in India’s internal matters by the country’s foreign office. Enzweiler was seen leaving the Ministry of External Affairs office in the national capital’s South Block.

Senior BJP leader MK Ajatshatru Singh in his address to the United Nations hailed the Government of India’s bold decision to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ajatshatru, the grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh who had signed the treaty of accession of the region with India in 1947 expressed his deep concern for the plight of those living under Pakistan occupation and sought UN intervention to ameliorate them.

The border discussions between Bhutan and China are “matters between those two countries,” Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said in a press briefing on Friday.

Asked whether China-Bhutan border dispute was discussed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of Bhutan, Kwatra said, “In so far as the boundary discussions between Bhutan and China are concerned, they are matters between those two countries.”

Political activists from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit-Baltistan held a protest outside the United Nations in Geneva on Friday, demanding Pakistan vacate its forces from the occupied territories in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution.

The protest was organized under the auspices of the National Equality Party JKGBL during the 55th Session of the UN Human Rights Council. Prof. Sajjad Raja, a political activist from PoK and Chairman of the National Equality Party JKGBL, stated, “We are here today to raise our voice against the violation of basic human rights in PoJK and Gilgit Baltistan. We are living like animals in GB and PoJK. We want Pakistan out of PoJK and Gilgit Baltistan as advised by the United Nations. It marks the 77th consecutive year of oppression, lacking basic human rights, and fundamental freedom in PoJK and Gilgit Baltistan.”

The Russian Embassy in India flew the Russian flag at half mast on Saturday following the tragic terrorist attack in Moscow, which claimed the lives of 60 people and left another 100 wounded.

“As a sign of mourning and grief for the victims of the terrorist attack in Moscow, the Russian Embassy in India flies the national flag at half-mast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day visit to Bhutan and emplaned for New Delhi on Saturday morning. In a special gesture, King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Bhutanese PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay both came to see off PM Modi at the airport.

The Indian Army is set to acquire a new weapon system designed to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of its mechanized infantry and armored units. The program focuses on procuring Canister-Launched Anti-Armour Loiter Munition (CALM) systems, offering several key advantages.

According to a recent procurement notice, the Indian Army aims to integrate CALM systems onto various platforms including T-72 and T-90 tanks, BMP-2 armored vehicles, mortar carriers, and reconnaissance vehicles. This integration will provide a vital remote-controlled attack capability, allowing troops to engage targets beyond their visual range.
