Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the Vice Chief of the Indian Army Staff (VCOAS), recently undertook a visit to the Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) and the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) at Avadi. This visit highlighted the Indian Army’s commitment to self-reliance in developing and maintaining its armored vehicle fleet.

Lt Gen Dwivedi was briefed on advancements in armored vehicle technologies, including the Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun and the T-90S Bhishma tank’s upgraded variant, the T-90 Mk-III.

Discussions centered on various initiatives aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in armored vehicle maintenance and modernization. This includes the adoption of latest technologies for repair and overhaul of critical components like the MBT Arjun’s power pack.

The VCOAS reviewed AVNL and CVRDE’s endeavors to indigenize various components and subsystems across all armored vehicle platforms used by the Indian Army.

Lt Gen Dwivedi commended the organizations for their transformative efforts in developing and supplying capable armored vehicles to the Indian Army. He emphasized the importance of continued excellence in manufacturing, maintaining, and repairing tanks and other armored fighting vehicles.
