Tata Advanced Systems is expected to play a significant role as a supply chain partner for GE Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the manufacturing of components for the F-414 engine.
The Engine Division of HAL is likely to produce the F-414 engine in India, and GE is eager to establish a robust network of medium and small business suppliers (MSMEs) in the country for the engine program. Tata Advanced Systems is poised to become a Tier-I partner for the engine program, working closely with GE and HAL.
HAL, being a state-owned entity, will facilitate the transfer of technology (ToT) for the F-414 engines and outsource the manufacturing of engine modules and components to create a comprehensive ecosystem. HAL will retain responsibility for engine assembly, inspection, testing, depot overhaul, and warranty-related tasks.
The F-414 engines are expected to achieve indigenous content levels of up to 60 per cent, with the potential to reach 100 per cent. However, it will take nearly a decade to develop the entire ecosystem in India to support such high levels of indigenization. The Indian fighter jet program envisions a requirement of approximately 300-400 engines over the next 20 years.
