The Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Advanced Defence Establishment (ADE) is on a roll. Following the successful development of the land-based Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) and its predecessor, the ITCM, ADE is now setting its sights on a naval variant.

The next chapter in the LRLACM story is the development of a ship-launched version. This sea-based missile will be integrated with a frontline warship to undergo further developmental trials. Fortunately, DRDO has already developed the Universal Vertical Launch Module (UVLM) cells required for the LRLACM program, paving the way for seamless integration.

Satellite imagery has revealed a significant development in India’s naval defence program – a new, massive construction facility dedicated to building the next-generation S5 class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs).

Located near the Cochin Shipyard, this facility stretches over 600 meters and, according to informed sources, boasts the capacity for simultaneous production of three S5 submarines before they are moved to an outer dry dock area for final assembly.

Among the contenders, The Boeing Company’s F-15EX Eagle-II stands out as a highly capable and advanced option. This aircraft offers cutting-edge technology and exceptional performance metrics, making it a strong candidate for the IAF’s MRCA program.

Boeing’s confidence in the F-15EX making the final cut stems from significant improvements and its impressive capabilities compared to previous offerings. During the last MRCA selection process, Boeing had proposed the F-18 E/F fighter jets, which did not progress past the technical evaluation rounds. However, with the F-15EX, Boeing is optimistic about a different outcome.

On March 27, 2019, India surprised the world with the announcement of Mission Shakti, a successful anti-satellite (ASAT) missile test. Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that a ballistic missile interceptor, the Prithvi Defence Vehicle Mark-II (PDV MK-II), developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), destroyed an Indian Microsat-R satellite in low Earth orbit.

Mission Shakti wasn’t impulsive. The targeted satellite, launched weeks prior at a deliberately low altitude, hinted at a controlled debris creation strategy. The small size of the satellite and the intercept method (hit-to-kill) further supported this intention.

Bengaluru-based Si2 Microsystems Private Limited is facing sanctions from Japan over accusations of supplying advanced technology to Russia’s defense sector. The Japanese government alleges that Si2 Microsystems provided sensitive semiconductors and systems specifically designed for military electronics applications.

Si2 Microsystems reportedly specializes in miniaturization techniques using a three-dimensional system-in-package (SiP) approach. This technology is believed to have aided the Indian defense industry in achieving self-sufficiency in manufacturing electronic subsystems and systems critical for missiles, radars, and other weapon platforms.

In a major boost to enhancing indigenous unmanned surveillance capabilities of defence forces, the Indian Air Force has made a proposal to the central government to buy 10 Tapas drones, officials said on Sunday.

Out of the 10, six Made-in-India drones would be for the Indian Air Force, while the remaining four would be for the Indian Navy, defence officials told ANI. The Indian Air Force will be the lead agency for the induction and acquisition of the Tapas drones into the defence forces, they said.

Amid recent attempts by Pakistan-backed terror groups to revive terrorism in areas south of the Pir Panjal ranges in the Jammu sector, it is emerging that there are around 35-40 foreign terrorists active in the area and operating in small teams, with two-three in each one of them.

Sources in the security forces told ANI that the assessment of the number of terrorists is based on the inputs received from the intelligence agencies along with forces operating on the ground.

Locals who are found supporting foreign terrorists will be dealt with under the Enemy Agents Ordinance, which is much harsher than Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police RR Swain said on Sunday.

The Jammu region will be cleared of all foreign terrorists within the next few months, he claimed. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, the police chief said the National Investigation Agency has taken over the investigation in the June 9 terror attack on a pilgrim bus in Reasi district.

The Indian missions in Canadian capital Ottawa and Toronto city on Sunday marked the 39th anniversary of the 1985 Kanishka bombing in which 329 persons, including 86 children, on board an Air India lost their lives in one of the most heinous terror-related air disasters in the history of civil aviation.

High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma paid homage to the victims of Air India flight 182 Kanishka on the 39th anniversary of the “cowardly terrorist bombing”, the High Commission in Ottawa posted on X along with a series of photographs from the event.

Swain on Sunday termed the Internet the main medium used for sustaining terrorism and separation in the UT. “Internet is becoming a medium of sustaining terrorism and separatism in J&K with 75 per cent of the challenges linked to it. Internet could account for 60 to 80 per cent of our problems. Cybercrime is broad in its context and it can actually go and touch other conventional crimes,” he told media after inaugurating the newly-constructed building of the cyber police station, Jammu zone.

“WhatsApp and Telegram have diluted the sovereignty of our licensed telecom service providers by mounting their services and platforms. I have raised this issue at the highest level as this poses a security challenge,” he said.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar for their “continued support” to the island nation.Wickremesinghe met EAM Jaishankar in Colombo on Thursday as both jointly inaugurated the formal commissioning of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) under a $6 million grant from India.

“I met Indian Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar during his official visit to Sri Lanka, marking the first diplomatic exchange between India and Sri Lanka under the new government. We inaugurated houses built under the Indian Housing Project in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Matale,” the Sri Lankan President posted on X on Sunday evening while mentioning the project which benefits the Indian-origin Tamil community in the country.

Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed on Sunday in an IED blast planted by Naxalites between Silger and Tekulagudem, under the limits of Jagargunda Police Station in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

The killed security personnel were identified as Vishnu R (35), hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala while the other jawan was identified as Shailendra (29) who hailed from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The security personnel were part of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 201 battalion.
