This significant expansion goes beyond the previously envisioned three-carrier force, aiming to solidify India’s naval presence in the strategically important Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

The Indian Navy has long desired three carrier battle groups, strategically deployed on the western and eastern seaboard with a third undergoing maintenance. However, Minister Singh’s announcement suggests a potential addition of two to three more carriers, pushing the total to four or five.

By the 1980s, the IAF’s focus had have shifted towards deeper penetration strike missions, where the Viggen’s long range and sophisticated navigation systems would have been more valuable. The Viggen’s advanced capabilities, including a powerful engine, all-weather operation, and robust short-field performance, had undoubtedly appealed to the IAF. It could have potentially filled a niche for deep penetration strike missions beyond the capabilities of the Jaguar and MiG-27.

Drone manufacturer Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd has inaugurated its first exclusive drone showroom in the city as it plans to sell 50,000 agricultural and consumer drones in the next few years.

The city-based company, backed by cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has served over 750 clients across the country. In a statement on Tuesday, the company said it has received the Directorate General of Civil Aviation approval for manufacturing of small and medium drones.

Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, the son of one of the assassins of Indira Gandhi, are have made their maiden entry to Parliament. Amritpal Singh won the Khadoor Sahib by a margin of 1,97,120 votes over his nearest rival and Congress candidate Kulbuir Singh Zira while Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa won in Faridkot by 70,053 over AAP’s Karamjit Singh Anmol.

Both Amritpal Singh and Sarabjeet Khalsa contested the polls as Independents. Political greenhorn and radical Sikh preacher Singh, the chief of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit, is lodged in a jail in Assam after being slapped under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) a year ago.

As many as 402 well trained Agniveer recruits were inducted into the Ladakh Scouts regiment of the Army at a passing out parade here on Tuesday, a defence spokesperson said.
