Recent satellite imagery has sparked speculation about a new facility being constructed near Cochin Shipyard in India. Experts believe this facility could be dedicated to developing larger nuclear submarines. The key features raising eyebrows include a new dry dock seemingly built for constructing massive vessels. This coincides with the location’s proximity to L&T Heavy Engineering, a company already supplying hulls for India’s existing nuclear submarine program.

The exact purpose of the new facility remains unclear. Some suggest it might be geared towards building nuclear-powered attack submarines, while others speculate it could be part of the S5 ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) program. An SSBN is a nuclear-powered submarine specifically designed to launch ballistic missiles.

The recent encounter in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, marked a rare instance of the Indian Army deploying a flamethrower. This unconventional tactic, reportedly used to neutralize trained terrorists, raises questions about its advantages and limitations in counter-terror operations.

The primary rationale behind using a flamethrower in Kulgam seems to be minimizing casualties on the Indian Army’s side. Flamethrowers excel at clearing fortified positions and flushing out hostiles from confined spaces. In situations like the Kulgam encounter, where terrorists might be holed up in a building, a flamethrower can neutralize the threat at a distance, reducing the risk of close-quarter combat for soldiers.
