Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) achieved a major milestone on 25 Oct 24, when the 7th ship in a series of 8 Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts being built by the shipyard for the Indian Navy on Friday, was launched by Smt Sandhya Pendharkar, President, Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (Eastern Region).
The Chief Guest at the occasion was Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Among the others present were Cmde P R Hari IN (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, Rear Admiral Sandeep Mehta, ACWP&A, India Navy, Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN(Retd), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE & other Senior officials of the Indian Navy, GRSE & L&T were present at the occasion.

With the successful launch of the S4 (Star) SSBN*, India’s strategic focus is now shifting towards the development of the S5-class SSBNs, a significantly larger and more advanced nuclear-powered submarine. This next-generation class will nearly double the submerged displacement of the current SSBN fleet, marking a major leap in India’s nuclear deterrence capabilities.
The S5 SSBN, at an estimated submerged displacement of 13,000 tons, will be twice as large as its predecessors in the Arihant-class and S4-class series, which are crucial elements of India’s nuclear triad. These new submarines will feature advanced nuclear propulsion systems, enhanced stealth capabilities, and a larger payload of submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), further solidifying India’s second-strike capability.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu is preparing to present a significant proposal to the Finance Ministry, outlining plans for the development of India’s ambitious Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) project. The RTA, a 90-seat turboprop aircraft, aims to boost domestic aviation manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign aircraft manufacturers. The project is backed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), with growing interest from India’s private aerospace sector.
The RTA project has garnered strong support from both HAL and NAL, India’s premier aerospace organizations. NAL has sought approximately $2 billion in development costs to kickstart the program, which includes the development of pre-production aircraft to be used for extensive flight testing. These aircraft will play a crucial role in certifying the new platform before commercial production begins.

Recent images of India’s Tejas Mk1A Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) have confirmed the integration of the latest Scorpius-SPJ (Self-Protection Jammer) ELL-8222SB, a sophisticated Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) pod developed by ELTA. This advanced airborne self-protection system, ordered by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2022, marks a significant leap in the ECM capabilities of the Tejas Mk1A. It is designed to detect and counter modern Air-to-Air (A/A) and Surface-to-Air (S/A) threats, which are increasingly prominent in high-intensity combat environments.
The Scorpius-SPJ is an airborne self-protection ECM system that leverages Staring Multibeam AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) technology, a breakthrough in electronic warfare (EW) technology. Unlike conventional AESA systems that scan sequentially, this “staring” technology allows the Scorpius-SPJ to generate hundreds of highly concentrated beams in all directions simultaneously. This capability enables the system to detect, track, and jam multiple threats at once across a wide spectrum, ensuring unparalleled electronic warfare (EW) superiority.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has recently expanded its arsenal of smart munitions with the induction of the Joint Direct Attack Munition-Extended Range (JDAM-ER), a U.S.-built weapon system. Following the integration of Israeli SPICE bombs and French AASM HAMMER, the JDAM-ER adds to the IAF’s growing repertoire of precision-guided munitions. While the JDAM might be the oldest and simplest of these systems, its low cost and effectiveness have made it a widely used tool in modern warfare.
The JDAM transforms “dumb bombs” into precision-guided munitions by attaching a tail section equipped with an Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) guidance unit. These modifications allow for highly accurate bombing, even in adverse weather conditions, by guiding bombs to their target using satellite signals. The tail fins also provide extended range, with JDAM-equipped bombs reaching distances of over 70 kilometers.

Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), a leading Indian defense manufacturer, is making waves with its Amogha-III, a third-generation, fire-and-forget man-portable anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). After successful field firing in 2023, the Amogha-III is now generating considerable international interest.
While the Amogha-III awaits final user trials by the Indian Army, BDL has proactively begun marketing the missile to countries seeking advanced anti-tank solutions. Recent efforts have yielded promising leads, with talks in “an advanced stage” with two or three potential buyers, according to BDL officials speaking to idrw.org. Whether these discussions translate into firm orders remains to be seen, but the positive international response is a clear indication of the Amogha-III’s capabilities.

A recent revelation by Twitter user Rishav Gupta has shed light on a little-known joint venture between India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and China’s Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) in the mid-1990s. The two companies had teamed up to co-develop a 100-seater regional airliner, dubbed the “Asian Express.”
The project, which also involved South Korea and later Airbus, aimed to create a competitive regional aircraft to cater to the growing demand for air travel in Asia. However, despite initial enthusiasm, the project was ultimately shelved due to a lack of market demand.

Indian Air Force (IAF) Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, selected as the mission pilot for the highly anticipated Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission to the International Space Station (ISS), has reached a significant milestone in his preparation for spaceflight. Training alongside fellow crew members at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, Shukla has undergone intensive preparation focused on mastering the essential skills for safely navigating entry and exit procedures to and from the ISS.
The training, conducted in the Harmony mockup facility, emphasized critical techniques in ingress and egress—vital skills that will enable Shukla and his team to effectively manage the docking and undocking processes. These procedures are crucial to ensuring the crew’s safe arrival at, and eventual departure from, the ISS.

The National Investigation Agency hasn’t yet received the death certificate of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, NIA sources said. According to NIA sources, the Canadian government asked for the reason for NIA behind its request to seek the death certificate of Nijjar. Nijjar was shot and killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey in June last year.
Nijjar, who held Canadian citizenship, was designated a terrorist by the National Investigation Agency in 2020. The ties between India and Canada soured after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in the Canadian Parliament last year that he had “credible allegations” of India’s hand in the killing of Nijjar. India has denied all the allegations, calling them “absurd” and “motivated” and has accused Canada of giving space to extremist and anti-India elements in their country.

The US expects India’s inquiry into the foiled plot to kill a Khalistani activist to nail those “responsible” for it and not merely, by implication, those who tried to carry it out. Nikhil Gupta, an Indian businessman accused by the US of implementing the plot by trying to hire a killer, is already in US custody after extradition from Poland, where authorities had stopped him.
We have indicted Vikas Yadav, a former RAW operative in the same case and the FBI has put up “Wanted” posters for information leading to his arrest.

Recalled Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma, on Friday shared a terrifying moment when Khalistani ‘goons’ came very close to bodily harm him and attacked him with a ‘sharp object’ most likely a ‘kirpan’ in Alberta that could potentially harm him.
In a podcast with ANI, Sanjay Verma shared his experience of threats and intimidation from the Khalistanis. Sanjay Verma said, “All these attempts to harm me bodily, that was in the presence of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the local police and the local police on the ground took immediate action, pushed him away because there was a sharp weapon and the RCMP then whisked me from the side door to the venue.”

Former Chief Minister of Punjab and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amarinder Singh on Friday slammed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for damaging India-Canada relations accusing him of not letting normalcy return until the elections are over.
“He (Trudeau) will not let normalcy return until the elections are over. He cannot win unless he gets the support of the Khalistanis. The common people don’t want any trouble; they want peace,” Singh said.
PM Trudeau has been facing a political rift in Canada, with MPs demanding his resignation before the elections. The elections in Canada are expected to be held next year.

Recalled Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Verma on Friday in an exclusive conversation with ANI clearly said that only a small percentage of Canadian Sikhs supported the Khalistani cause and if Canada cared about that then they should “give a place to them and call it Khalistan”. Sanjay Verma asserted Khalistani extremists and terrorists are challenging Indian territorial integrity and sovereignty. “These are Canadian citizens challenging Indian territorial integrity and sovereignty. As long as these people, these Khalistani extremists and terrorists keep talking about Canada, I have no issues.
That’s their domestic issue. They can do whatever they want. As soon as they look at dividing India, then it is my problem. And that problem, I will certainly take to the Canadian authorities to say that listen, you have to resolve this,” Verma said “They want a country for themselves. I would say if Canada wants them to be there and they are so kind to them, Canada is a huge country. Give a space to them, call it Khalistan,” Verma said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently investigating six cases involving designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. In its investigation against Pannu, the agency has so far attached three properties owned by Pannu in Chandigarh. Additionally, several land parcels in Amritsar linked to him have also been seized.

The DG-level border talks between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to be held in Delhi next month, have been postponed following a change in plan by the neighbouring country, official sources said on Friday.
The bi-annual talks led by the heads of the Border Security Force (BSF) and its Bangladeshi counterpart the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were to be tentatively held between November 18 and 22 in the national capital, the first such meeting after the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5.
