The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has recently cleared the procurement of 97 Tejas Mk1A fighter jets, marking a significant milestone in India’s indigenous fighter jet development program. These aircraft are poised to replace the retired MiG-21, MiG-23, and MiG-27 squadrons, which were either numbered out or reassigned to different aircraft types.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has already begun the induction of the 83 Tejas Mk1A jets that were initially approved. The formation of the third Tejas Mk1A squadron is planned to be deployed on the Western border with Pakistan, showcasing the IAF’s strategic intent.

India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) declaring a no-fly zone over a designated area of 1645 square kilometers from September 25, 2024, to September 30, 2024. The NOTAM indicates that a missile test is imminent.

he Armenian Air Force, operating a small fleet of four Su-30SM fighter jets, has expressed its desire to receive training for its pilots and ground crew from the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Su-30SM is a specialized version of the Su-30MKI, designed for the Russian Air Force and export markets.

As the largest operator of the Su-30MKI fleet globally, the IAF possesses extensive expertise in handling and maintaining this advanced fighter aircraft. Given the relatively small size of the Armenian Air Force, the country is keen to leverage India’s infrastructure and manpower to train its future pilots.

Jitendra J. Jadhav, the architect behind the Tejas fighter aircraft’s Initial Operational Clearance (IOC), has assumed the mantle of Director General at the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). As the agency spearheads India’s ambitious military aircraft development programs, Jadhav’s expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of Indian aviation.

ADA, established in 1984, has been responsible for the development of the Tejas light combat aircraft, which is currently in service with the Indian Air Force. Now, under Jadhav’s leadership, the agency will focus on developing the Tejas Mark 2 and the advanced medium combat aircraft (AMCA), as well as the twin-engine deck-based fighter (TEDBF) for the Indian Navy.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that Dassault Systèmes, the technology division of the French conglomerate Dassault Group, will establish an aerospace and defense automotive electric vehicle training hub in the state. The project is expected to attract an investment of Rs 240 crore.

During a press interaction in Guwahati, Sarma revealed that the Assam cabinet had approved the proposal for the training hub. Dassault, renowned for its Rafale fighter jets, 3D printing technology, and other advanced innovations, will be setting up the facility to provide specialized training and skill development in the aerospace, defense, automotive, and electric vehicle sectors.

The Kalvari Submarine Escape Training Facility (Vinetra) was commissioned on 13 Sep 24 by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, at INS Satavahana, Visakhapatnam. The facility, aims to enhance the escape capabilities of crew from a distressed Kalvari-class submarine, and has been indigenously designed and developed, keeping in line with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, highlighting India’s focus on self-reliance in defence capabilities.

Constructed by M/s L&T Defence as a turnkey project, the Kalvari Submarine Escape Training Facility is equipped with a five-meter escape tower integrated with an adjacent diving basin. This state-of-the-art facility will be utilized for imparting both basic and refresher escape training to the crew of Kalvari-class submarines, ensuring that they are proficient in escape procedures in the event of a submarine distress situation.

Mohammed Sufiyan, a Telangana native who ended up working as a support staff for the Russian army after being duped by an employment agent, returned home on September 14. The return of Sufiyan (22), who belongs to the Narayanpet district, ends the agonising wait of his family members who were worried about his safety as he was helping the Russian military in its war with Ukraine.

Mr Sufiyan said he was promised a security-related job and not told about having to help the troops in the war. He was told that he would have to undergo training for three months after which his salary would increase.

Congress on Saturday accused the Centre of failing to end terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and claimed that terrorism has returned stronger in union territory where it had been eliminated many years ago.

Addressing a press conference at the party office here, the party’s spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said there have been 25 terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the 98 days since Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in for his third term.

India and China discussed early resumption of direct passenger flights between their two countries, India’s Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said on Thursday, in an indication that their air travel could recover after four years.

Reuters reported in June that China was pressing India to restart direct passenger flights, but New Delhi was resisting as a border stand-off continues to weigh on ties between the Asian rivals.

Amid the tense situation in West Asia, Iranian Ambassador to India Iraj Elahi has said the tension between his country and Israel is “not new”. He assured Indians and other tourists that “Iran is safe” to travel and urged them to explore the historic land of Persia.

In an interview with PTI on the sidelines of the Iran Tourism Roadshow in Delhi, the envoy also expressed the hope that more direct flights can be set up between the two countries, as well as by Indian carriers from between different cities of India and Iran.

Three unidentified militants suspected to be foregoiners have been killed in a gunfight in Jammu Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Saturday. The gunfight erupted at Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan Tilwani Mohalla late Friday when a team of joint forces launched a cordon and search operation following an input about militant presence in an abandoned building.

“As the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering an encounter. In the ongoing operation. three terrorists have been neutralised,” a security official said. The identity and group affiliation of the slain could not be established immediately.

The Manipur government lifted the temporary ban on broadband internet services in the five valley districts on a “conditional” basis.

However, the suspension of mobile internet services will remain in place, officials said on Friday. The five-day ban was imposed on September 10 following student protests demanding the removal of the DGP and security advisor for their alleged inability to handle attacks by militants.
