Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director of Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), recently highlighted the success of the company’s Shourya bulletproof vehicle, currently deployed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. According to Dr. Jha, the vehicle has received positive feedback, and MIDHANI is now anticipating more orders from other state police forces. The vehicle is seen as a key asset in enhancing the security and operational capabilities of law enforcement agencies in high-risk regions.

MIDHANI plays a central role in the production of these vehicles. The armored steel, critical for the protection provided by Shourya, is manufactured at the company’s Hyderabad facility, while the vehicle assembly is conducted at MIDHANI’s facility in Rohtak, Haryana. The deployment of these vehicles by the J&K Police has demonstrated their effectiveness in real-world conditions, solidifying the product’s credibility in the armored vehicle sector.

MIDHANI’s armored panels are also being utilized in mine-proof vehicles produced by the Jabalpur ordnance factory, showcasing the company’s growing footprint in defense manufacturing. Dr. Jha also revealed that MIDHANI is entering the bulletproof jackets and helmets market. While this venture is still in its early stages, the company is actively evaluating collaborations with various armed services and paramilitary forces to expand its presence in this space.

In addition to domestic interest, MIDHANI is eyeing export opportunities in the armored vehicle sector. During recent interactions, neighboring countries, including Indonesia, have shown interest in acquiring the Shourya vehicle, demonstrating its potential for international markets.

The Shourya bulletproof vehicle offers ballistic protection against 7.62 mm bullets, including 7.62x39mm MSC and HSC ammunition. Additionally, its roof and body are capable of withstanding 2XHE36 grenade blasts, making it highly resistant to common threats in conflict zones.

The vehicle boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 42-45 BHP/MT in its standard armored configuration, while its composite armor variant offers a ratio of 60 BHP/MT, providing enhanced maneuverability. Fitted with run-flat tires that can cover distances of up to 100 km, the vehicle is designed to operate in rugged and hostile environments. A 360-degree camera system enhances situational awareness, making it a comprehensive solution for security forces. Furthermore, its time-to-armor up is quoted at a quick four minutes, making it highly adaptable in critical situations.

As MIDHANI continues to refine its defense offerings, the Shourya vehicle stands as a significant achievement, highlighting the company’s role in enhancing national security and bolstering India’s defense capabilities on the global stage.
