At least three Indian citizens have been caught in a harrowing ordeal, allegedly tricked into fighting alongside Russian forces in the ongoing Ukraine conflict. These individuals, lured with promises of security helper jobs, now find themselves stranded in war-torn regions, desperately seeking government assistance to return home.

According to a victim’s account published by The Hindu, an agent reportedly misled them into believing they would work as “army security helpers.” However, upon arrival, they were pressured and forced to fight alongside Russian troops. This paints a disturbing picture of deceptive recruitment practices exploiting vulnerable individuals.

The report further highlights the plight of at least 18 other Indians currently stranded in Ukrainian cities like Mariupol, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Rostov-on-Don, caught in the crossfire of the ongoing conflict. Tragically, one individual has already lost their life in the war.

With their lives in danger and facing uncertain circumstances, the victims and their families are urgently appealing to the Indian government for assistance in securing their safe return. This situation necessitates swift and decisive action from the authorities to protect their citizens caught in this complex and volatile conflict.

This incident raises broader concerns about the potential exploitation of vulnerable individuals seeking employment opportunities abroad. It underscores the need for increased awareness and stricter regulations to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
