India’s Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jets are gearing up for a long-distance deployment to participate in Exercise Pitch Black 2024 in Australia. This international aerial combat exercise, held every two years, will take place from July 12 to August 2, 2024, at airbases in Darwin and Tindal, Australia.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent is eager to showcase its skills on the global stage. This year’s Exercise Pitch Black is set to be the largest in its 43-year history, with participation from 20 countries and over 140 aircraft.

The IAF views this exercise as a valuable opportunity to sharpen its combat skills alongside air forces from around the world. Participating in large-scale, simulated war scenarios will provide invaluable experience for the IAF pilots and crew.

Following Exercise Pitch Black, the IAF will continue its focus on regional cooperation by participating in Exercise Udara Shakti 24 with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) from August 5 to 9, 2024, in Kuantan, Malaysia. These back-to-back exercises demonstrate the IAF’s commitment to maintaining strong military relationships in the Indo-Pacific region.
