The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) No. 45 Squadron, also known as the “Flying Daggers,” recently received a prestigious honor – the President’s Colours, awarded on March 8, 2024. To commemorate this momentous occasion, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), visited the squadron on May 25, 2024.

The Flying Daggers have a rich history, transitioning from the iconic Vampire jets to the formidable Tejas aircraft. Their journey has been marked by extensive operational experience, including crucial roles in the 1965 and 1971 wars, air defense operations following the Balakot incident, and participation in various national and international exercises.

The visit by CAS Chaudhari served as a celebration of the squadron’s achievements. Various events were held, including a gathering of serving personnel and veterans. The CAS lauded the squadron’s dedication and service, urging them to maintain their exceptional performance. Air Marshal B Manikantan, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Air Command (AOC-in-C, SAC), along with other senior officers, also graced the occasion.

The award of the President’s Colours signifies the highest recognition bestowed upon an IAF unit. The Flying Daggers’ accomplishment is a testament to their unwavering commitment, exceptional flying skills, and unwavering service to the nation. The squadron’s journey, marked by a continuous evolution in aircraft and unwavering dedication to duty, serves as an inspiration for the entire IAF.
