Germany has accorded a special status to India, which will allow for quicker approvals for military purchases, German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann said on Wednesday. He added that the German seller is waiting for the Indian government to complete its decision-making processes regarding the P-75I submarine deal.
The multi-billion dollar deal will be a key topic of discussion during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to India this week. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is also scheduled to visit India over the weekend, and the submarine deal is expected to be on the agenda for their meeting as well.
The special status granted to India by Germany is a significant development, as it could help to expedite the procurement of military equipment from Germany. This could be beneficial for India, as it seeks to modernize its armed forces.
The P-75I submarine deal is one of the largest defense contracts that India is currently considering. If the deal goes through, it would be a major boost to the German defense industry.
It remains to be seen whether the Indian government will approve the P-75I submarine deal. However, the special status granted to India by Germany is a positive sign for the future of the relationship between the two countries.
