The Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), a leading laboratory of India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the development of a critical component – an indigenous track system for 70-ton class Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs).

The track system is an essential element of the Running Gear (RG) system in a Main Battle Tank (MBT) like the Arjun Mk-IA. It acts as a closed loop, driven by a sprocket to propel the tank. Each track link comprises various components like track blocks, rubberized pins, pads, connectors, and clamps.

The current Arjun Mk-IA utilizes a steel track design with detachable rubber pads, catering to its 70-ton weight class. These pads offer protection for paved surfaces during urban deployments.

Presently, MBT Arjun Mk-IA relies on imported track systems. To achieve self-reliance under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, DRDO seeks an Indian source to develop this crucial track system as per specified requirements.

The issued RFI outlines the specifications and scope of work for potential manufacturers. Companies interested in developing this indigenous track system are encouraged to respond with detailed proposals outlining their capabilities and approach to meeting DRDO’s requirements.
