In a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Instruments Research and Development Establishment (LRDE) has issued tenders for the development of a Distributed Aperture System (DAS-HD).

This advanced system is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the situational awareness and combat effectiveness of future fighter jets, including India’s upcoming 5th-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).

DAS-HD is a multi-LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) system designed for autonomous detection, tracking, and declaration of multiple threats based on HD (High-Definition) sensors. It is a sophisticated electronic warfare system that utilizes a network of distributed sensors to provide a comprehensive view of the surrounding environment, enabling the aircraft to identify and engage potential adversaries with greater accuracy and precision.

key Features of DAS-HD

  • Enhanced Situational Awareness: DAS-HD provides a 360-degree field of view, allowing the aircraft to detect and track threats from all directions, even in complex and challenging environments.
  • Superior Target Tracking: The system’s advanced tracking capabilities enable accurate and reliable tracking of multiple targets, even in the presence of clutter and electronic countermeasures.
  • Enhanced Threat Identification: DAS-HD’s high-definition sensors provide detailed information about targets, enabling accurate identification and classification of threats.

The integration of DAS-HD into the AMCA program is expected to significantly enhance the fighter jet’s capabilities. The system’s ability to provide a comprehensive view of the battlefield, track multiple targets, and accurately identify threats will give the AMCA a decisive edge in aerial combat.

LRDE is seeking to develop a DAS-HD reference unit with test support accessories that include six units along with one DAS Processing Unit-HD with test support accessories along with DAS-HDSOFT unit with test support that includes units of Sensor unit HD and One unit of DAS Processing Unit HD.

The scope of work also includes the development of the DAS-HD system, integration with the aircraft platform, and provision of support for testing and documentation. Interested vendors are invited to submit their tenders by the specified deadline.
