Domestic telecom gear maker HFCL inaugurated its defence equipment manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, the company said on Tuesday. The new facility will produce defence technologies, including HFCL’s indigenously developed thermal weapon sights, electronic fuzes, high-capacity radio relay (HCRR) systems and surveillance radars.

“HFCL is proud to inaugurate this advanced defence equipment manufacturing facility in Hosur, which symbolises our unwavering dedication to innovation, excellence, and national progress. This facility will allow us to deliver world-class defence technologies to armed forces, enabling them to operate with greater efficiency and confidence in critical missions,” HFCL Managing Director Mahendra Nahata said.

India has initiated a probe into alleged dumping of LNG fuel tanks from China following a complaint by a domestic player, according to a commerce ministry notification. The commerce ministry’s investigation arm, Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), is probing the dumping of liquified natural gas (LNG) fuel tanks as imports are allegedly hurting the margins of the domestic industry.

Inox India Ltd has filed an application seeking the imposition of anti-dumping duty, stating that the cheap imports are causing material injury to the domestic industry.

 As many as 219 Naxalites were killed by security forces in Chhattisgarh in 2024 as the state government and security forces showed a firm resolve to implement Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement of eradicating Left Wing Extremism by March 2026.

The year began with a setback for security forces after three CRPF personnel, including two commandos from the elite CoBRA unit, were killed and 15 injured in a Naxal attack along the Sukma-Bijapur border on January 30.

Indian Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and members of the Indian Army on Wednesday expressed grief over the death of five soldiers in a road accident in Poonch district. The deceased have been identified as Subedar Dayanand Tirakannavar, Lance Havildar Anoop, Naik Ghadge Shubham Samadhan, Sepoy Nikure Digamber and Sep Mahesh Marigond.

Taking to social media X, ADG PI posted, “General Upendra Dwivedi and all ranks of the Indian Army express profound grief on the loss of Subedar Dayanand Tirakannavar, Lance Havildar Anoop, Naik Ghadge Shubham Samadhan, Sepoy Nikure Digamber, and Sep Mahesh Marigond in a tragic and unfortunate road accident while on operational duty in Poonch, J & K.”

A significant new deposit discovery has been made in and around the existing area of India’s Jaduguda Mines which will increase the life of an otherwise depleting mine by more than 50 years, according to the year-end review released by the Department of Atomic Energy on Tuesday. 

Since last October, continued efforts of the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration & Research (AMD) have resulted in an increase of 15,598 tonnes of uranium oxide resources in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan. The total uranium oxide resource of the country is updated to 4,25,570 tonne U3O8, the review stated.

Following the death of three Khalistani Zindabad Force militants in an encounter with the UP and Punjab police in Pilibhit on Monday, a video threatening to disrupt the key bathing dates of the Magh Mela on — January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami) — surfaced on social media, with the voice in the video being attributed to Khalistan supporter Pannun.

Following the killing of three Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terrorists in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, security agencies have ramped up their search for local accomplices in the region. The terrorists, suspected of involvement in a grenade attack in Gurdaspur, were killed in an early morning encounter on Monday. Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, called the operation a significant breakthrough against a Pakistan-backed terror network.

Bareilly Range IG, Rakesh Singh, said police and intelligence agencies are on high alert due to ongoing threats. “Investigations are ongoing and security measures have been strengthened along the border areas. We will take action against anyone found aiding terrorist activities,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the CRPF has done a commendable job in tackling Naxalism and restoring peace and stability in the Northeastern states and Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah also said that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is playing an important role in ensuring internal security and peace in the country, according to an official statement. The home minister said this while visiting the CRPF headquarters where he met senior officers of the force, including its Director General Anish Dayal Singh, it said. During the visit, Shah had a comprehensive review of the operations and administrative efficiency of the world’s largest paramilitary force.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police arrested two more members of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), said Assam police. On December 21, the STF had arrested eight members of ABT, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) terrorist organisation. The arrested individuals were sent to police custody for 10 days by a Guwahati court.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IGP (STF), told ANI that the court had remanded them to 10 days’ police custody. “All arrested 8 accused were produced before the court yesterday (December 19) and they have been remanded 10 days’ police custody. We also seized 4 pen drives and other incriminating documents which we are analysing. Among the 8 arrested persons one is Bangladeshi national. All follow up actions are underway,” Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.

The Border Security Force jawans killed a suspected intruder along the India-Pakistan border in Sriganganagar district, an official said Wednesday. The suspect was allegedly trying to enter the Indian border on Tuesday night. The BSF soldiers warned him but he did not stop, following which he was killed, Sriganganagar SP Gaurav Yadav said.

The incident took place near a village in Kesarisinghpur area, he said.He said that Pakistani currency notes, a cigarette packet and some other items were recovered and information is being gathered about him.

Gunfight broke out between two armed groups in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Wednesday morning, police said. Armed men fired from the hilltops of Kangpokpi district, targeting the Sinam Kom village. Armed ‘village volunteers’ deployed at the foothills retaliated, leading to the gunfight, they said.

Additional security forces were deployed in the area following the incident, they added.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested 17 Bangladeshi nationals from four different cities in the state, including capital Mumbai, for illegal entry into India and staying without permission, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrests were made as part of a special drive, an official said. “The ATS carried out the operation in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Nashik cities this week with the help of local police,” he said.“At least 17 Bangladeshi nationals, comprising 14 males and 3 females, were arrested for entering India without permission and staying in the country without valid documents,” he added.
