The Brazilian Army Commander, General Tomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva, paid a strategic visit to Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) in Bangalore to explore India’s state-of-the-art Akash surface-to-air missile systems. These missile systems are manufactured by BEL in collaboration with Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL).

This visit follows earlier meetings between top Brazilian army officials and the CMDs of BEL and BDL during the LAAD DefExpo in Rio, Brazil. General Tomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva’s visit to BEL’s facility in Bangalore aimed to gain insights into the capabilities and technology behind the Akash missile system.

During his visit, the Brazilian Army Commander had the opportunity to witness a display of firepower by the Indian Army in Pokhran, Rajasthan. The Brazilian Army has expressed a keen interest in India’s Akash surface-to-air missile system, which received its first export orders from an unnamed country last year.

The Akash missile system is a remarkable indigenous air-defense weapon designed to neutralize threats originating from diverse altitudes and weather conditions. Its compatibility with high mobility vehicles enhances its tactical flexibility, making it an attractive choice for modern military forces.

As Brazil explores the possibilities of acquiring the Akash missile system, this visit paves the way for potential collaboration between the two nations in the field of defense technology and military cooperation.
