Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) for a technology tie-up related to the 155 mm / 52 Caliber Mounted Gun System (MGS). This strategic move underlines BHEL’s commitment to strengthening India’s defence infrastructure by seeking collaborations that foster indigenous technological innovation and self-reliance.

The Expression of Interest solicits responses from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who are willing to engage in a Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA) with BHEL. The objective of this collaboration is to jointly design, develop, engineer, manufacture, assemble, test, integrate, commission, maintain, operate, repair, overhaul/retrofit, service, troubleshoot, and ultimately sell the 155 mm / 52 Caliber Mounted Gun System (MGS).

The Indian Army and the Ministry of Defence have expressed a need for the acquisition of a Mounted Gun System (MGS) with specifications that include a 155 mm / 52 Caliber configuration. The procurement process is guided by the “Buy (Indian-IDDM)” category of the Defense Acquisition Policy (DAP), which emphasizes the indigenous design, development, and manufacturing of the equipment with a minimum of 50% Indigenous Content (IC) on a cost basis.

In response to this imperative need, BHEL is inviting potential collaborators who are equipped to establish a long-term Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA). This agreement would involve the transfer of relevant Intellectual Property rights (IPR), if necessary, to facilitate the comprehensive lifecycle of the 155 mm / 52 Caliber Mounted Gun System (MGS). BHEL envisions engaging with these collaborators to undertake the various stages of development, from design and engineering to manufacturing, testing, integration, commissioning, operation, maintenance, repair, retrofitting, and servicing.
