India’s National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) is taking a significant step towards self-reliance in its intelligence gathering operations. The agency, responsible for conducting technical intelligence and surveillance activities for national security, will reportedly be utilizing its own indigenously developed Artificial Intelligence (AI) for these critical tasks.

NTRO’s core function involves sifting through vast amounts of technical data, including communication signals, satellite imagery, and other forms of electronic information. Traditionally, this analysis has relied on a combination of human expertise and existing technology. However, AI integration promises to significantly enhance these processes.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a leading Indian private sector conglomerate, showcased its indigenously developed SOV-400 Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to the Defence Secretary. The SOV-400 falls at the larger end of the “midget submarine” category with a displacement of 400 tons.

The SOV-400 appears to be specifically designed for special forces missions. It has the capacity to carry 10 special forces operators and integrate two four-person Swimmer Delivery Vehicles (SDVs) on its lower hull. These SDVs extend the range and endurance of underwater missions for combat swimmers.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) crossed a significant milestone on April 30, 2024, with the release of the 2500th overhauled Viper 22-8 aero engine for Kiran MK I/IA aircraft. The landmark achievement was celebrated at the Base Repair Depot (BRD) located at Air Force Station (AFS) Kanpur.

Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) celebrated a significant milestone with the keel laying ceremony of the first Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (Y 1280) . This development comes after the Ministry of Defence awarded a contract to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) in Mumbai on December 20, 2023, for the construction of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) . The contract, valued at Rs 1614.89 crore, falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, promoting indigenous shipbuilding [1].

Nepal on Friday announced the printing of a new Rs 100 currency note with a map that shows the controversial territories of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani, already termed as “artificial enlargement” and “untenable” by India.

“The meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ took a decision to print the new map of Nepal, which includes the Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani in the Rs 100 denomination bank notes,” government spokesperson Rekha Sharma told media persons while briefing about the cabinet decision.

India and the Maldives on Friday reviewed the ongoing process of replacing Indian military personnel from the island nation with Male saying New Delhi would complete the withdrawal of its troops by May 10.

The two sides held the fourth meeting of the bilateral high-level core group in Delhi. India has already withdrawn some of its military personnel who were operating three aviation platforms in the Indian Ocean archipelago.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has rejected recent remarks by US President Joe Biden describing India as “xenophobic” and emphasised that the country has been open and welcoming to people from diverse societies. Speaking to the Economic Times, Jaishankar also refuted the allegation that the Indian economy was faltering.

The Union Minister said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government showcases India’s welcoming approach. On April 2, Biden had said the “xenophobic” nature of India, China, Japan and Russia is responsible for their economic troubles and argued that America’s economy is growing because it welcomes immigrants to its soil.

Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has again alleged an Indian government hand in the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar despite police personnel not giving any evidence of any link to India’s involvement in the killing of Nijjar.

Jagmeet Singh’s NDP has supported the Liberal minority government led by Justin Trudeau in exchange for support on some key bills. After the Canadian Police announced the arrest of three accused in the killing of Hardep Nijjar, Jagmeet Singh claimed that there was an Indian hand in the same.

Canadian police on Saturday released photographs of all three persons arrested in the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year amid an ongoing probe into alleged connections of the Indian government.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in a statement named the three men, all Indian nationals, as Karanpreet Singh, 28, Kamalpreet Singh, 22 and Karan Brar, 22 and released their photographs. The trio were arrested in Edmonton city in Alberta.

Calling previous Congress governments “weak” on dealing with Pakistan over terrorism issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that earlier governments used to send love letters to Pakistan in the hope of peace but the neighboring country used to send more terrorists in response to those letters.

The Prime Minister said that with the power of one vote in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the country witnessed a shift in its approach towards Pakistan over the terrorism issue.  He said that Pakistani leaders are hoping that Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister of India after the Lok Sabha elections.

The Delhi Police along with the National Security Guard (NSG) conducted security mock drills at the IGI airport, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and DPS RK Puram here late Friday and early Saturday.

The drills come days after nearly 200 schools received hoax bomb threats. The drill was conducted at IGI airport at Friday 10 pm by the NSG commandoes and Delhi Police. As part of the drill, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which looks after the security of airport, was alerted about a mock terror attack.

Indian Navy has responded to a distress call and provided critical medical assistance to a Pakistani crew member onboard an Iranian fishing vessel Al Rahmani, an Indian Navy spokesperson said. The warship, INS Sumedha deployed for anti-piracy operations in the Arabian Sea, intercepted fishing vessel Al Rahmani in early hours of April 30, according to the statement released by Indian Navy Spokesperson on X.

The ship’s boarding team and medical specialists boarded the fishing vessel and rendered medical acceptance to the crew member. The Spokesperson stated, “In a swift response to a distress call, #INSSumedha, mission deployed for #antipiracy ops in the #ArabianSea provided critical medical assistance to an Iranian FV (with 20 Pakistani crew), for a near drowning case of one of its crew member.”
