Kalyani Strategic Systems, a leading Indian defense manufacturer, has emerged as a strong contender in the Uttar Pradesh Police’s tender for 2000 5.56×45 carbines. The company’s CQB carbine, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Armament Research Development Establishment (ARDE), is one of the shortlisted options for the contract.

The CQB carbine offers a compelling combination of lightweight design, effectiveness in close combat, and compatibility with existing ammunition. Weighing just 3.2 kilograms and measuring less than 800 millimeters in length, the carbine is highly maneuverable and suitable for operations in confined spaces.

One of the key advantages of the CQB carbine is its ability to fire the in-service 5.56mm INSAS ammunition. This ensures seamless integration with the existing inventory of the Uttar Pradesh Police. Additionally, the carbine features Picatinny rails at various positions, allowing for the attachment of different accessories such as optics, lasers, and flashlights.

The CQB carbine also incorporates several ergonomic features, including an improved polymer magazine with metallic inserts, a foldable butt for enhanced portability, and a three-point sling for comfortable carrying. In terms of performance, the carbine is capable of penetrating a 3.5mm MS plate from a distance of 200 meters, demonstrating its effectiveness in combat scenarios.

The DRDO’s 5.56×45 mm CQB carbines not only meet the requirements of the Uttar Pradesh Police but also align with the Indian Army’s specifications for similar carbines. This suggests that the CQB carbine has the potential to become a widely adopted weapon within the Indian security forces.

If selected for the UP Police tender, the Kalyani Strategic Systems’ CQB carbine would represent a significant step towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing and would provide Indian security forces with a modern and effective weapon system.
