The skies above Jodhpur Air Force Base were abuzz with excitement as Phase II of Exercise Tarang Shakti 24 kicked off. One of the highlights of the multinational air exercise was the debut of the iconic Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II in Indian airspace.

The appearance of the A-10, renowned for its close air support capabilities, has captured the attention of defense enthusiasts and plane watchers across the country. This is the first time the aircraft has been seen in India, making it a historic moment for aviation enthusiasts.

The A-10 is being phased out by the United States Air Force to make way for the more advanced Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. As a result, the A-10’s presence in India is likely to be a one-time occurrence. With the aircraft expected to be fully retired by 2029, it is unlikely that it will ever be seen in Indian skies again.

Exercise Tarang Shakti 24, involving a variety of aircraft from participating nations, provides a valuable opportunity for air forces to enhance interoperability and strengthen bilateral ties. The presence of the A-10 Thunderbolt II adds an extra layer of excitement and significance to this multinational air exercise.
