Dassault Maintenance and Repair Organisation, India (DAMROI) is set to significantly bolster the Indian Air Force (IAF) with the establishment of a new maintenance hub in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This state-of-the-art facility will specialize in servicing the IAF’s fleet of Mirage-2000 and Rafale fighter jets, promising faster turnaround times and cost-efficiency.

Currently, the IAF operates around 50 Mirage-2000 aircraft, acquired in the 1980s, and two squadrons of 36 Rafale jets, recently inducted into service. The new DAMROI facility will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal operational readiness of these fighter aircraft.

The establishment of this maintenance hub is a direct outcome of the Indian government’s recent relaxation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) rules in the defence sector. DAMROI’s substantial investment in the Noida facility underscores its commitment to India’s defence capabilities.

Looking ahead, DAMROI envisions expanding its operations in Noida to include the manufacturing of spare parts for Mirage-2000 and Rafale fighters. This strategic move will enhance India’s self-reliance in defence equipment and reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers, especially during critical times.

Furthermore, the Noida facility has the potential to emerge as a regional maintenance hub for other countries operating Mirage-2000 and Rafale aircraft, such as Greece, Egypt, and Qatar. This could generate significant revenue for India and strengthen its position as a global aerospace maintenance centre.

The establishment of the DAMROI maintenance hub in Noida marks a significant milestone in India’s defence industry and reinforces the country’s growing stature as a global aerospace player.
