The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is making significant strides in data dissemination with its Geoportal, Bhuvan. According to ISRO Chief S. Somanath, Bhuvan offers users ten times more detailed information compared to global giants like Google. This advancement positions Bhuvan as a powerful tool with the potential to revolutionize data-driven decision-making across various sectors.
Somanath highlighted the launch of two crucial tools, Bhuvan-Panchayat and NDEM, that significantly expand Bhuvan’s capabilities. Bhuvan’s existing reputation lies in its comprehensive geospatial data offerings, providing valuable insights and resources for diverse fields like agriculture, urban planning, and disaster management.
The newly launched Bhuvan-Panchayat specifically targets local governance. This tool equips Panchayats (village councils) with enriched datasets and analytical tools, empowering them to make informed decisions. This localized approach ensures data caters to specific needs and challenges faced at the ground level.
The National Database for Emergency Management (NDEM) is another crucial addition. This tool integrates vital datasets, enhancing ISRO’s disaster response and management capabilities. NDEM plays a vital role in risk assessment and mitigation during emergencies, reflecting ISRO’s commitment to leveraging space technology for societal benefit.
