NewSpace Research (NSRT), a rising star in the Indian drone industry based out of Bengaluru, has recently unveiled a modernized design for its highly anticipated Abhimanyu UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle), drawing inspiration from the legendary warrior known for his bravery.

The most striking update lies in the engine configuration. Gone are the external podded engines featured in previous iterations. The new Abhimanyu boasts a sleek and streamlined design with internally mounted engines housed within strategically placed trapezoidal side intakes. This shift promises enhanced performance and potentially improved stealth capabilities.

Last year’s captivating NSRT promotional video offered a glimpse of the Abhimanyu in action. The video showcased its launch from an airbase, emphasizing its remarkable ability to seamlessly integrate with a Manned Mothership, highlighting the potential for groundbreaking collaborative combat tactics.

Four Roles, One Goal

The video also unveiled four distinct configurations for the Abhimanyu, each tailored for a specific mission:

  • Abhimanyu EW: This variant functions as an electronic warfare (EW) specialist, safeguarding airbases by jamming enemy communications and disrupting their radars, effectively neutralizing potential threats.
  • Abhimanyu Kamikaze: Designed for high-impact kinetic attacks, the Kamikaze configuration eliminates hostile military aircraft with pinpoint precision. The video depicts the Abhimanyu Kamikaze engaging a J-10CE, a combat aircraft used by the Pakistan Air Force.
  • Abhimanyu Decoy: The decoy variant plays a critical role in deception. By mimicking real aircraft, it confuses enemy air defenses, making it difficult for them to distinguish between genuine threats and decoys.
  • Abhimanyu ISR: This configuration serves as the “eyes and ears” of the operation, gathering vital intelligence through surveillance. The Abhimanyu ISR identifies and tracks potential threats, providing essential situational awareness for the entire team.

NewSpace Research’s revamped Abhimanyu UCAV seems to be more focused now on the stealth and promises to be a game-changer in modern warfare. Its potential to excel in various roles, from intelligence gathering to combat missions, makes it a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
