Airbus is set to deliver the first batch of helicopters assembled in India, marking a significant step towards self-reliance in the country’s aviation sector. Sunny Guglani, head of Airbus Helicopters in India and South Asia, announced plans for the initial deliveries during a statement on Tuesday.
This development comes after Airbus joined forces with the Tata Group in January 2024 to establish a final assembly line (FAL) for its H125 helicopters in India. The announcement, made during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India, signified a major boost for the “Make in India” initiative.
Guglani revealed Airbus’ expectations for the initial phase, stating, “We see three helicopters being delivered from the final assembly line in India in 2026.” This initial batch will pave the way for a production ramp-up in subsequent years, catering to the growing demand for helicopters within the region.
The H125, also known as the AS350 Ecureuil, is a popular single-engine helicopter renowned for its versatility and performance. It caters to a broad spectrum of applications, including utility missions, passenger transport, law enforcement, and medical evacuation.
Airbus’ commitment to “Make in India” through the H125 FAL signifies a positive development for the Indian aviation sector. This initiative not only promotes self-reliance in helicopter production but also has the potential to create new job opportunities and boost the domestic aerospace industry.
