Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued a challenge under the Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative seeking proposals from private sector companies to design and develop pressurized radomes for Indian Air Force (IAF) radars.
Radomes are protective enclosures that house radar antennas, shielding them from harsh weather conditions and ensuring optimal performance. Pressurized radomes are specifically designed for high-altitude operations, maintaining the necessary atmospheric pressure inside the enclosure to prevent damage to the radar system.
The MoD is seeking innovative solutions that meet the following requirements:
- Dismountable design: Radomes must be easily dismounted and reassembled at new locations to facilitate mobility and flexibility of radar deployment.
- High-altitude operation: Radomes must be capable of withstanding and maintaining the necessary pressure conditions for radar operation at altitudes up to 5,000 meters above mean sea level (AMSL).
Private sector companies with expertise in aerospace engineering, radar technology, and composite materials are encouraged to participate in the challenge. The MoD will provide financial support and technical guidance to the selected companies to develop and test their prototypes.
The development of pressurized radomes will significantly enhance the IAF’s radar capabilities, enabling effective operation in high-altitude regions and contributing to enhanced air defence and surveillance.
