In a landmark event, the Dubai Air Show is set to witness a unique spectacle as light fighters from regional rivals India and Pakistan, the HAL Tejas and CAC/PAC JF-17, respectively, take center stage in the same exhibition and air display.
The Indian Air Force has made a significant presence with three HAL Tejas LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) fighters, accompanied by the Sarang Helicopter Display Team, showcasing the ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter). The Tejas, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is a symbol of India’s technological advancements in indigenous fighter aircraft.
On the other side, Pakistan has brought the CAC/PAC JF-17, a collaborative effort between China and Pakistan. The JF-17, known for its versatility and cost-effectiveness, has already secured export orders to air forces in Myanmar and Nigeria.
The presence of both the Tejas and JF-17 in the same exhibition space is historic, considering the historical tensions between India and Pakistan. In previous instances, Pakistan had withdrawn its JF-17 from air shows where India’s Tejas was scheduled to participate, underscoring the sensitivities surrounding these defense exhibitions.
In a carefully orchestrated sequence, both fighter jets have been allotted eight minutes each for their aerial displays. The JF-17 will take the lead, followed by the LCA-Tejas, allowing spectators to witness the distinct capabilities and maneuvers of these advanced aircraft.
Notably, India’s Tejas is eyeing global orders, with the Philippines emerging as a potential buyer. The Tejas, with its advanced features and indigenous technology, aims to establish a foothold in the international military aircraft market.
