India is set to significantly enhance its military capabilities with the upcoming acquisition of MQ-9B Predator drones from the United States. The anticipated contract signing in June marks a major step forward in modernizing the country’s defense infrastructure.
These advanced drones, known for their intelligence gathering and surveillance prowess, will be strategically deployed across two key states: Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. This nationwide distribution reflects India’s commitment to comprehensive border security.
The deal, valued at approximately $4 billion, encompasses a total of 31 MQ-9B Predators. The Indian Navy will receive the highest allocation with 15 drones, while the Indian Army and Indian Air Force will each acquire eight.
The first batch of these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. This phased delivery will allow for pilot training and infrastructure development to ensure optimal utilization of the technology.
For the Indian Army and Air Force, the deployment locations have been identified as Gorakhpur and Sarsawa. Each station will house four MQ-9B Predators, strategically positioned to address potential security threats.
