In a groundbreaking reveal at Aero India 2025, the Indian defense startup Tonbo Imaging is set to introduce Wavestrike, a High Power Microwave (HPM) based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW). This innovative system is designed to offer new strategic capabilities in electronic warfare, showcasing India’s advancements in defense technology.

Wavestrike utilizes HPM to disrupt or disable electronic systems, offering a non-lethal option for neutralizing threats. This can range from jamming communications to disabling UAVs or other electronic devices over a significant area.

The weapon system includes search and track radars along with an Electro-Optical (EO) system for precise targeting. This combination ensures that Wavestrike can not only detect but also engage targets with high accuracy.

Designed for mobility, Wavestrike can be mounted on a trailer that is connected to an LMV (Light Mobility Vehicle) 4×4, making it deployable in various terrains and operational scenarios. This mobility allows for rapid response and repositioning, crucial in modern, dynamic battlefields.

Unlike traditional munitions, HPM systems can engage multiple targets with one pulse, offering a cost-effective solution for defense against swarms of drones or other electronic threats. The ability to neutralize enemy assets without causing physical damage provides military commanders with additional strategic options, particularly in scenarios where minimizing collateral damage is critical.
