Star Aerospace, a leading Indian aerospace company, has secured a contract worth ?18 crore to supply 2000 upgraded kits for the Indian Army’s INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG). The upgrade kits will enhance the capabilities of the INSAS LMG, making it more effective for modern combat operations.

The modification/upgradation system offered by Star Aerospace includes several key features:

Picatinny rail: Allows for the mounting of various modular optics, lasers, bipods, and other tactical accessories.

Foldable buttstock: Provides flexibility and comfort for different shooting positions.

Rubberized pistol grip: Improves grip and control, especially during rapid-fire.

Polymer magazine: Holds 30 rounds and features a window for checking remaining ammunition.

Picatinny forehand guard: Offers multiple attachment points for tactical equipment.

Forehand grip: Enhances weapon control during burst mode.

Holographic sight: Provides fast and accurate target acquisition.

The upgrade kits will be available in three colors: Tan, Black, and Olive Green, allowing the Indian Army to choose the most suitable option based on operational requirements and camouflage preferences.

The contract with Star Aerospace is a significant step towards modernizing the Indian Army’s small arms inventory. The upgraded INSAS LMGs will provide soldiers with a more versatile and effective weapon system, enhancing their combat capabilities.
