The Indian Naval Submarine (INS) Shalki arrived at the Port of Colombo today on a formal visit. The submarine was accorded a warm welcome by the Sri Lanka Navy in keeping with naval traditions.

INS Shalki, a formidable vessel measuring 64.4 meters in length and manned by a crew of 40, is under the command of Commander Rahul Patnaik. As part of the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Shalki paid a courtesy call on Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe, at the Western Naval Command Headquarters.

During its stay in Colombo, the Indian crew will have the opportunity to explore some of Sri Lanka’s renowned tourist attractions. In reciprocation, Sri Lankan Navy personnel will be invited aboard INS Shalki for an awareness program on the submarine’s operational capabilities.

INS Shalki is scheduled to depart Sri Lankan waters on August 4, 2024, concluding its official visit.
