India has submitted a bid for the Philippines’ tender to acquire 40 fighter jets, offering its Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Tejas Mk1A. The deal is estimated to be worth between $5.3 billion and $7.1 billion.

The Philippines is seeking “faster and more lethal” multi-role jet fighters to complement its existing fleet of South Korean FA-50s. The government aims to award the tender as soon as possible, provided that their financial requirements are met.

India has proposed the BrahMos-NG armed Naval optimized LCA-Tejas Mk1A fighter jet at a competitive price. The Philippines government is exploring flexible payment schemes, including syndicated loans from private lenders. While the Indian Ministry of Defense has approved a payment schedule of more than the usual 4-5 years, the competition for the tender is expected to be intense, with contenders such as the US F-16V, Sweden’s Gripen-E, France’s Rafale, and Korea’s KF-21.

Philippines recently acquired BrahMos Anti-ship missile for its Coastal defence. BrahMos-NG a 1.3-ton Air Launched (ALCM) Variant is currently under development and will be cleared for production by 2028.
