In a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence ecosystem, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Bengaluru-based DCX Systems Ltd announced the establishment of a new Joint Venture (JV) named ELTX on April 21, 2025. This strategic partnership aims to deliver cutting-edge defence technologies, focusing on the development and production of advanced airborne radars and ground systems for the Indian defence sector. The collaboration, formalized through a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with IAI’s subsidiary ELTA Systems Ltd, underscores the growing technological ties between India and Israel while aligning with India’s “Make in India” initiative.
ELTX, the newly formed Joint Venture Company (JVC), is poised to become a cornerstone of India’s defence manufacturing landscape. The venture will specialize in high-end defence systems, including airborne maritime radar systems, fire control radar systems, and other radar technologies designed for both airborne and land applications. By leveraging IAI’s global expertise in aerospace and defence technology and DCX Systems’ manufacturing prowess, ELTX aims to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology to India, enhancing the country’s self-reliance in critical defence capabilities.
According to a filing by DCX Systems with the stock exchanges, ELTA Systems will hold a 63% stake in ELTX, while DCX Systems will own the remaining 37%. The JVC’s board will initially comprise four directors—three nominated by ELTA and one by DCX—with provisions for DCX to gain an additional board seat upon full investment. Leadership roles, including CEO and CFO, will be appointed by ELTA, subject to board approval, ensuring a balanced governance structure. ELTA will also grant ELTX an exclusive license to utilize its radar technology in India, except for government-to-government (G2G) and government-to-commercial (G2C) projects.
The ELTX joint venture builds on a long-standing relationship between DCX Systems and IAI’s ELTA Systems. DCX, a key player in India’s defence and aerospace sector, has previously secured significant orders from ELTA, including a $56.5 million contract in January 2025 to manufacture and supply Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) module assemblies and a $58.7 million order for BACKPLANE module assemblies. These contracts highlight DCX’s expertise in advanced electronics manufacturing and its growing role in the global defence supply chain, with clients including Lockheed Martin, L&T, and Collins Aerospace.
IAI, Israel’s largest government-owned aerospace and defence company, brings decades of experience in developing advanced systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), missile defence systems, satellites, radars, and avionics. Its subsidiary, ELTA Systems, is a global leader in radar and electronic warfare technologies, with products like the C-catcher Multi-Mode, Multi-Role airborne surveillance radar deployed in over 35 countries. The collaboration with DCX positions ELTX to tap into this expertise, delivering state-of-the-art solutions tailored to India’s defence needs.
