In a significant step towards modernizing its defense forces, Guyana has officially commissioned two state-of-the-art Dornier HAL-228-201 aircraft. The ceremony, held at Air Station London, Timehri, was attended by Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, and other high-ranking officials.
Purchased from India earlier this year, these advanced aircraft are a crucial part of the Government of Guyana’s broader strategy to enhance national security and respond effectively to various challenges.
Prime Minister Phillips emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating, “This commissioning isn’t happening in isolation. It’s part of a larger vision to transform our Defense Force into a modern, versatile institution capable of addressing an evolving range of challenges.”
With this investment in military infrastructure, Guyana reaffirms its commitment to national security and development. A strong and well-equipped defense force is essential to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and the well-being of its citizens.
