The Global Times, a state-run Chinese newspaper, has criticized India’s perception of China as a military rival. Following recent statements by the Indian Air Force chief, the Global Times argued that India should not view China’s military development with suspicion.

Indian Air Chief Marshal AP Singh had previously stated that India “lags behind” China in military technology and defense production. He expressed concern about China’s growing air combat advantage along the border and called for accelerated development of India’s indigenous defense industry.

However, the Global Times dismissed these concerns as “sensationalizing” China’s legitimate defense development. A Chinese military expert, speaking anonymously, told the Global Times that India’s focus on China as a rival is hindering its own domestic defense industry. The expert pointed out that many of India’s indigenous defense projects have faced challenges such as long development cycles, slow production rates, and high costs.

The Global Times emphasized that China does not intend to engage in an arms race with India. Instead, the Chinese newspaper suggested that India should focus on its own development and avoid perceiving China as a threat. By doing so, India can better allocate resources and prioritize its defense needs.
