A man suspected to belong to a terrorist outfit died in an explosion that took place near Majitha Road in Amritsar on Tuesday, police said. Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh said the man was retrieving some explosive material when the blast happened, possibly due to mishandling.
The SSP said the man might be linked to some terror organisation. “The foot soldier came here to retrieve the explosive material,” he said. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was at the spot to collect samples of the explosive, police said.

Asserting that Operation Sindoor is on as Pakistan cannot be trusted, Inspector General of BSF, Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand on Tuesday said the border force has not let its guard down along the International Border.
The IG expressed apprehension of infiltration attempts along the borderline and said the Border Security Force (BSF) remains on high alert.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has proposed to name a post in the Samba sector as “Sindoor” and two other in the name of the personnel killed during the cross-border shelling by Pakistan on May 10. Speaking on it, BSF IG Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand said that three jawans including an Indian Army Naik was killed in fighting the cross-border shelling.
“On the morning of May 10, Pakistan sent low-flying drones to target our posts. The BSF was actively engaging these drones. However, during one such incident, a tragic event occurred when BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiyaz, Constable Deepak Kumar, and Indian Army Naik Sunil Kumar were trying to counter a drone, it dropped a payload, resulting in the killing of all three,” he said.

In a series of operations in Manipur, army and other central and state security forces have arrested 13 militants of different outfits and recovered 23 arms, grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores, officials said on Monday.
Defence spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla said that the well-coordinated joint operations resulted in the apprehension of 13 cadres from various hill and valley-based extremist groups. He said that the joint operations were conducted by the army, other Central and state forces during the past few days in five districts — Kangpokpi, Senapati, Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal. The arms recovered in these joint operations include Self Loading Rifle (SLR), a .303 rifle, double-barrel breech-loading shotgun, bolt-action rifles, improvised mortars, pull mechanism rifles, and 9mm pistols.

As many as 18 Naxalites, among them 10 carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 38 lakh, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Tuesday, police said. The cadres turned themselves in before senior police and CRPF officials here, citing disappointment with “hollow” and “inhuman” Maoist ideology and atrocities by ultras on local tribals, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said.
They said they were also impressed by the state government’s ‘Niyad Nellanar’ (your good village) scheme, aimed at facilitating development works in remote villages, and the new surrender and rehabilitation policy, he said.

The Central government on Monday extended the tenure of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Samir V Kamat by one more year, till May 2026.
This is his second extension in the post. A distinguished scientist, Mr Kamat was appointed as secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D) and the DRDO chairman on August 25, 2022.

In a rare and striking release, a few images have emerged from the Indian Army’s war room, offering a behind-the-scenes look at ‘Operation Sindoor’, precision military strike by the Indian forces against terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on May 7.
The pictures show the Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral DK Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh standing shoulder-to-shoulder, while monitoring real-time updates of the operation in a high-security command centre. Another senior officer of the Army is also visible along with them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan, asserting that its sole objective is to foster hatred towards India and orchestrate harm, and at the same time, India remains steadfast in its pursuit of poverty eradication and economic advancement.
Addressing a large gathering in Gujarat’s Dahod, the Prime Minister lauded “Operation Sindoor,” describing it as not merely a military operation but a “profound expression of India’s ethos and feelings.” The operation was launched during the intervening night of May 6 and May 7 with the Indian Air Force targeting nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir which included the headquarters of banned outfits of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Pakistan carried out 413 drone attacks in Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar districts, but all of them were neutralised mid-air by India’s air defence system, Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General (Rajasthan Frontier) ML Garg said on Monday.
In an interaction with media at the BSF headquarters in Jodhpur, Mr Garg shared the force’s achievements during Operation Sindoor at the Western Border. He said Pakistan’s army targeted sensitive locations in Rajasthan, including the Phalodi air base, but the forces responded with precise timing, exactly where and when required.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reiterated India’s warning that if Pakistan continues to nurture terrorists in its backyard, its existence could be wiped out. Mr Sinha saluted the valour and indomitable courage of the armed forces for their strong and decisive action against the “terrorist nation” through Operation Sindoor.
“India has warned terror state Pakistan that our forces can attack every inch of its land, and its entire existence could be wiped off the face of earth if it continues to nurture terrorists in its backyard,” Mr Sinha said after attending a theatrical performance of Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s epic poem Rashmirathi, organised by the University of Jammu.

A court here on Monday remanded YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra to judicial custody after the end of her police remand in a case of alleged espionage. The 33-year-old travel influencer was produced in the court. A police spokesperson said that they did not seek her further remand after which the court sent her to jail.
Meanwhile, data from Malhotra’s three mobile phones and a laptop, which had been sent for forensic examination, has been recovered, police sources said on Monday.

The Directorate General of Shipping has been directed to monitor the situation arising out of the capsizing and sinking of a Liberian cargo ship off the Kerala coast, at every two hours, Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Monday.
Speaking with reporters after attending the 36th Foundation Day celebrations event here, Mr Sonowal, who is the Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said all steps have been taken, particularly to protect coastal life.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s planned trip to Moscow this week has been called off as he is indisposed due to seasonal flu, sources said on Monday.
Doval was scheduled to attend the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues to be held in Moscow from May 27 to 29.He is unable to participate in the meeting due to indisposition with a seasonal flu, the sources said.
The NSA is looking forward to taking forward bilateral engagement with Russia on strategic and security matters at an early date, they said.

Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla and three other crewmates, part of the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station, are headed into quarantine, the US-based private space firm announced on Sunday. The Axiom-4 mission is scheduled for lift-off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on June 8.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said Pakistan’s only aim is to hate India and think of ways to harm it, while our nation has set goals of removing poverty and bringing about economic development. Addressing a rally in Dahod in Gujarat, the PM hailed Operation Sindoor and said “those daring to wipe off the sindoor of our sisters must know their end is near”.
Twenty-six men were gunned down by terrorists in Pahalgam in Kashmir on April 22, following which India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, resulting in massive damage to terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.
