India said on Wednesday that it rejects China’s move to rename places in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh where the Asian neighbours share a border, adding that the Himalayan territory was an integral part of India.
Beijing has renamed places in Arunachal Pradesh in the past as well and the issue has been an irritant in ties between the two countries, especially as they deteriorated sharply after a deadly military clash elsewhere on their border in 2020.

India’s trade relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan are expected to come under strain due to Ankara and Baku backing Islamabad and condemning India’s recent strikes on terror camps in Pakistan. Following their support to Pakistan, calls for Turkish goods and tourism have surfaced across the country, with online travel platforms such as EaseMyTrip and Ixigo issuing advisories against visiting these nations.
In fact, Indian traders too have started boycotting Turkish products such as apples and marble. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to destroy nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in retaliation for the Kashmir’s Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

In a historic success in the resolve of a ‘Naxal-free India,’ the security forces have killed 31 Naxalites in the biggest-ever 21-operation against Naxalism, on the Karreguttalu Hill (KGH) at the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. A total of 214 Naxal hideouts and bunkers have been destroyed in the operation, and a total of 450 IEDs, 818 BGL shells, 899 bundles of Codex, detonators and a huge amount of explosive material have been recovered during the searches.
In addition, nearly 12,000 kilograms of food supplies have also been recovered. As part of the operation, the security forces also destroyed four Naxal technical units that were being used for the production of BGL shells, homemade weapons, IEDs, and other deadly weapons. During the operation, a large quantity of ration supplies, medicines, and daily-use items were also recovered from various Naxal hideouts and bunkers. In the significant operation, a total of 18 personnel from Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guards (DRG) were injured in various IED explosions.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday welcomed the “ceasefire” agreement between Pakistan and India, expressing hope that it will restore calm between the two neighbours.
Prince Mohammed made the remarks while delivering a speech during a meeting of leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and US President Donald Trump in the Saudi capital Riyadh. “We welcome the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India,” he was quoted as saying by the state-owned Saudi Press Agency.

At least 10 militants were killed in a gunfight with an Assam Rifles unit in Manipur’s Chandel district on Wednesday, officials said. The operation is still in progress, they said. The Army’s Eastern Command said in a post on X, “Acting on specific intelligence on movement of armed cadres near the New Samtal village, Khengjoy tehsil, Chandel district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps launched an operation on May 14.
“During the operation, the troops were fired upon by suspected cadres to which they quickly reacted, redeployed and retaliated in a calibrated and measured manner. In the ensuing firefight, 10 cadres were neutralised and a sizeable quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered.

A new low-cost Counter Drone System in Hard Kill Mode ‘Bhargavastra’, has been designed and developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) signifying a substantial leap in countering the escalating threat of drone swarms. The micro rockets used in this counter-drone system underwent rigorous testing at the Seaward Firing Range, Gopalpur achieving all designated objectives. Three trials were conducted for the rocket at Gopalpur on May 13 in presence of senior officials of Army Air Defence (AAD). Two trials were conducted by firing one rocket each.
One trial was conducted by firing two rockets in salvo mode within 2 seconds. All four rockets performed as expected and achieved the required launch parameters underscoring its pioneering technology in mitigating large-scale drone attacks. A Unified Solution for Countering Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Threats: ‘Bhargavastra’ boasts of advanced capabilities for detecting and eliminating small, incoming drones at distances of upto 2.5 km.

John Spencer is a researcher of urban warfare and serves as the Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at the Modern War Institute. Sharing his observations, takeaways and impact of ‘Operation Sindoor’, he said that unlike previous attacks, this time India didn’t wait, it didn’t appeal for international mediation or issue a diplomatic demarche, rather launched warplanes on the terror infrastructure that was responsible for the April 22 massacre in Pahalgam.

Pakistan on Wednesday handed over BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw to India, 21 days after he was apprehended by the Rangers from along the International Border between the two countries in Punjab. The constable was handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by Pakistan Rangers at 10:30 am at joint check post (JCP) Attari in Amritsar district (opposite Pakistan’s Wagah), a BSF spokesperson said.
A picture of the jawan released by the force showed a bearded Shaw with ruffled hair, and wearing a dark green round-neck T-shirt. “Today at 1030 hours Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw has been taken back from Pakistan by BSF at Attari-Wagah border,” the spokesperson said.

Defence exports from India are at all-time highs, having risen a whopping 34-fold over the past decade. “India exported defence goods worth Rs 23,622 crore in 2024-25 — a 34-fold rise as against just Rs 686 crore in 2013-14,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s office said in a post on X.
The defence minister’s office asserted that India’s defence sector is growing stronger than ever, driven by the spirit of a self-reliant or Atmanirbhar Bharat.

A 50-year-old woman who was injured when debris fell on her home during a Pakistani aerial intrusion in Punjab’s Ferozepur last week died at a private hospital in Ludhiana on Tuesday, officials said. Her husband and their son are still undergoing treatment. Multiple aerial attacks were carried out by Pakistan at many places along India’s western borders, including in Punjab, that were effectively thwarted by Indian security forces.
Sukhwinder Kaur, her husband Lakhwinder Singh (55) and their son Monu Singh (24) suffered severe burn injuries when an unidentified projectile fell on their home in the Khai Pheme Ke village, setting the structure and a car on fire, during a Pakistani aerial intrusion on May 9.

The bomb disposal squads of Army and police are undertaking a major exercise in Jammu and Kashmir’s border villages to defuse the unexploded artillery and mortar shells fired by Pakistan. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo said they are monitoring the situation and will facilitate the return of the displaced border residents after getting clearance from the security agencies and will also ensure early compensation to those whose houses were damaged in the indiscriminate shelling on civilian areas.
The officials said dozens of unexploded explosives were destroyed by the experts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts and along the International Border in Jammu and Samba which witnessed intense cross-border shelling and drone attacks from May 7 to May 10.

India’s first manned deep ocean mission ‘Samudrayaan’ into a 6,000-metre depth using the manned submersible vehicle ‘Matsya’ is expected to be launched by the end of 2026, National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) Director Balaji Ramakrishnan said on Tuesday.
He was speaking after inaugurating a five-day national training programme on the ‘role of fisheries in the blue economy’ at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) here.
