At Swavalamban 2024, Big Bang Boom Solutions (BBBS) presented the innovative Vajra Shot, a lightweight, handheld anti-drone jammer gun, which garnered notable attention from Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. Held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Indian Navy event spotlighted the Vajra Shot as a testament to India’s strides in defense technology and Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiatives.
The Vajra Shot, also known as the Vajra Sentinel System, is a handheld anti-drone gun weighing just 3.5 kilograms, designed for easy portability and operation by soldiers in diverse field conditions. Specifically created for use by the Indian Army and Air Force, the Vajra Shot combines a powerful radar system that detects drones from up to four kilometers away with a jamming capability that disrupts a drone’s communication signals, causing it to lose control and crash.
With an optional hand-held drone detection sight, the Vajra Shot can enhance real-time threat response, making it highly effective across a range of terrains and operational scenarios. Highlighting the Vajra Shot’s utility, Ravi Kumar, a representative from BBBS, noted, “We are into anti-drone solutions, and this is the ‘Vajra-Shot.’ It is a hand-held anti-drone gun that can detect up to a range of 4 km and also does jamming. We have deployed it in the Indian Army and Air Force, and we’ve received orders worth around USD 25 million so far.”
The Vajra Shot’s success signifies a broader trend in India’s defense landscape: a shift toward indigenous solutions that cater to specific national security requirements. The system addresses an urgent need for cost-effective and mobile counter-drone technology as drones become a growing security concern, both along India’s borders and in sensitive installations.
India’s push for anti-drone solutions aligns with its aim to counter threats ranging from reconnaissance drones to potentially weaponized systems. The Vajra Shot’s versatility and efficiency exemplify the country’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its defense infrastructure through local development. As drones become an increasingly common tool in warfare and surveillance, countermeasures like the Vajra Shot offer India a way to neutralize these threats effectively.
