Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a leading Indian defense electronics company, has successfully completed the delivery of 100 Control Centres for the Air Defence Control & Reporting System (Akashteer) to the Indian Army. This significant milestone underscores BEL’s commitment to providing critical national security solutions and its ability to meet stringent timelines.
The Akashteer project, executed by BEL’s Defense Command & Control Systems (DCCS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU), commenced in March 2024 and was completed ahead of schedule. The rapid deployment of the 100 Control Centres, facilitated by the invaluable guidance of the Army Air Defence Corps, showcases BEL’s capability to deliver strategic defense equipment efficiently and effectively.
Akashteer, an advanced Air Defence Control and Reporting System developed by BEL, is designed to provide Indian Army air defense units with a tactical command and control network. This system enhances operational capabilities by monitoring low-level airspace in battle zones and effectively controlling Ground-Based Air Defence Weapon Systems.
The Ministry of Defence awarded BEL a contract worth ?1,982 crore (US$237 million) for Project Akashteer in March 2023. This contract is aligned with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to promote self-reliance in the defense sector.
Akashteer integrates radar and communication systems into a unified network, providing enhanced situational awareness in air defense operations. Its vehicle-based design ensures mobility and adaptability to various environments, allowing for quick deployment and efficient operation in challenging conditions.
The timely delivery of the 100 Akashteer Control Centres marks a significant achievement for BEL and a major step forward in strengthening India’s air defense capabilities.
