In a gripping post on X, Amardeep Singh, founder of Gurgaon-based ArmoryShield, has spotlighted the transformative yet perilous role of drones in modern warfare. From capturing wedding videos to delivering packages, drones have become ubiquitous. However, their darker side is reshaping global conflicts, as seen in the Ukraine-Russia and Hamas-Israel wars.

Singh warns that small, affordable drones are rewriting the rules of warfare, rendering traditional air power less dominant and exposing nations to an invisible, cost-effective enemy. “Warfare has changed. Forever,” he declares, urging India to confront this escalating threat head-on.

Singh outlines the unique dangers posed by drones, which have become a game-changer in asymmetric warfare:

  • Disproportionate Impact: A ?20,000 drone can destroy tanks or aircraft worth crores, delivering devastating outcomes at a fraction of the cost.
  • Invisibility: Small drones evade radars designed for larger threats like missiles or aircraft, slipping through conventional defenses.
  • Costly Countermeasures: Even when detected, neutralizing cheap drones with expensive missiles is an unsustainable strategy.
  • Zero Risk: Operated remotely, drones inflict significant damage without risking human lives, with gamers now doubling as warriors, as seen in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

The threat is not hypothetical. Singh highlights that India’s borders are under siege, with over 400 reported drone incursions last year from neighboring countries smuggling drugs, money, arms, and explosives. The unreported numbers are likely higher, underscoring the urgency of robust countermeasures.

With 16 years of experience as a founding member of ideaForge, where he helped develop indigenous drones for India’s armed forces, Singh is no stranger to the strategic importance of unmanned systems. His time in border regions revealed the critical role drones play in surveillance and security—but also the growing menace of rogue drones. In response, Singh founded ArmoryShield in 2024 to tackle this modern threat.

ArmoryShield is developing AI-enabled counter-drone systems designed to detect, defend, and destroy rogue drones. “We’ve made incredible breakthroughs in a short time,” Singh shares, emphasizing the company’s race against rapidly evolving drone technology. These systems aim to neutralize the invisible threat, safeguarding India’s skies and borders from incursions and attacks. By leveraging artificial intelligence, ArmoryShield’s solutions promise to outsmart increasingly sophisticated and affordable drones.

Singh’s X post is not just a warning—it’s a rallying cry. He invites passionate individuals to join ArmoryShield’s mission, promising “great challenges, an amazing team, and an adventure you’ll tell your grandkids.” While the perks may not rival corporate giants, the opportunity to contribute to India’s self-reliance revolution is unparalleled. “It’s not a job,” Singh asserts, “it’s your contribution to defending our nation.”
